This month I decided to flip the script & keep it off this NKD. Get it? No scripts… just beats. Thus, No Knows Beats! From my favorite producers past, present & future. This cover is quite special to me as well because it is a painting of me done by my brother like no other Dee Jae Pa’este of Konscious Klothing & he was kind enough to let me use it for this months NKD art. (I mean… IT IS ME tho hahahaha). I have been bumping this all day while I was working on the back cover & it is damn good designing music… or work music… or whatever you use it for. Burn a CD, drop it on your mp3 players & cypher with your homies while you cruise the block or BBQ it up… or just stfu & listen.

VIDEO: SHAWN CHRYSTOPHER – THE REASON

My talented brother Charles Yi of The Mighty Fifty shot and directed a new music video featuring up and coming musician Shawn Chrystopher. The artist from Inglewood performs “The Reason” from his forth coming album The Audition ala a capella in his car. A strong intimate song that takes a glimpse into the life  of a struggling artist.

You think you know, but you have no idea. Even us privileged enough to be in the know, the people who check out Blind I and fall in love with the music, are still unaware of what these artists will be able to bring to the world in the near future. It’s crazy cause while out at CMJ last year, TiRon and & spoke about how he was from Kankakee, Illinois, and I was taken aback by his journey. It’s always interesting to hear unique points of view, especially like this 60901 snippet laid over a super-dope Oddissee beat (60901 happens to be Kankakee’s area code). TiRon’s at our Quality! I’m glad to see Jay Elect finally getting the response and attention he deserves. Blind I has been bumping and posting his stuff for years, and he definitely deserves the shine. The Just Blaze original is pretty much untouchable, but the Astronotes remix is dope too.

JOYA MOOI

I can’t stop playing Joya Mooi.  I first discovered her when I saw this video for her first single, “When I Take a Step Back” from her debut album Hard Melk. This ode to heartbreak, which most of us can relate to, struck me visually with the faded scenes and sun panning o the songstress. Her voice tip-toes over her music, recalling Jill Scott at times and Yukimi Nagano in others.
