Los Angeles spitkicker and rappercrush to Blind I’s very own Ms. Maiya Blu drops this video for the title track off his 2011 release jesus? (which he released under the name B). In high school I used to take the CTA Eastbound Blue Line from Racine to Washington to catch the Number 6 bus home every day. Now, for those familiar with the janky ass Chicago Transit Authority and their routes, you might ask “why go two stops past Jackson to catch the number 6?” Two reasons: 1) if I got off at Jackson with the rest of you jerk-offs I’d be one of you jerk-offs standing on a bus in rush hour traffic instead of one of the cool cats actually sat down in a seat and 2) I loved listening to the Hypnotic Brass Band play on the corner of Washington and State. These guys have been killing it for a bajillion years its dope seeing them go from humble street performers selling burned CD’s hand-to-hand (one of the best $5 bucks I’ve ever spent) to an internationally-known and sampled group. I almost felt obligated to post this. So please do yourself a favor and familiarize yourself with Hypnotic’s music by listening to and downloading their track Starfighter below. For those fortunate enough to be in LA on the 23rd of this month they’ll be performing at Exchange LA. More details on that after the jump.

My new obsession. Yuna is signed to FADER’s label, and she’s a 25 year old Malaysian Muslim with influences including No Doubt, The Cranberries and Fiona Apple, amongst others. Her previous works (namely last year’s Decorate EP), which I’ve been jamming too religiously, are reminiscent of a bit of Feist, but honestly I feel like her songwriting & voice are much better. Yeah, it’s like THAT. Check out a Soundcloud stream of her new Pharrell-produced joint ‘Live Your Life‘, and then grab it on iTunes like I did. Can’t wait until the world knows Yuna!
