2010 is here…we are in the future…the future is now!!! So the vibe around our camp is sooooo FUTURISTIC. SO you know I had to go IN on this cover and take it to the FUTURE. I switched up my whole standard cover look and feel…. even switched the standard art size. Yesterday was a sad day for music as we lost another one of our fore fathers in soul. The great Teddy Pendergrass lost his battle with colon cancer on Wednesday January 13th 20X. I will always remember him for the greatness that he gave us all. Jay Cee made an ill podcast in tribute to Teddy P that really needs no introduction or list of tracks to tell you that it is a must have for any true aficionado. We miss & love you brother Teddy. Rise in Power.

These are a collection of demo tracks, instrumentals, and writer reference tracks for Thriller, aka the best album ever created ever in life. I remember shortly after MJ’s passing a collection of super rare recordings came out with a myriad of archived joints from the King….and I maybe remember ONE of these tracks being in that collection. I’ve been working on this for a LOOOONG time and I finally completed another masterpiece. For those not in the know, The Neptunes are a record production duo consisting of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, who are credited with contributing the sound for some successful Hip hop, R&B and Pop artists in the late-90s and 2000s. The Neptunes’ sound is a distinctive brand of off-kilter, stripped-down electronic funk. Along with Timbaland and Dr. Dre they were the driving force behind many of the musical characteristics of late-90s/2000s hip-hop, helping to re-introduce sci-fi style sounds into the hip-hop mainstream, along with sounds from Middle Eastern and Asian music including percussion and woodwind.

I decided a few months back to make a collection of my favorite rare, b-side, and unreleased Neptunes production, from 1999 to 2009, in order to create a dedication to over 10 years of next-level music that still stands the test of time. I swear listening to these tracks puts you in a state of mind where everything’s better around you. Decemvir, which is the latin term for “ten“, is used to describe this decade of incredible works from the stellar production duo. Their music can speak for itself more than anything I can say, so without further ado, I give you…

All jokes aside, St. Ides put together a super thorough promotional campaign back in the day with Dr. Dre to push their malt liquor sales to the then-blossoming hip-hop crowd. Looking back on it philosophically, it was a total brainwashing tool to get inner-city youth to drink and drink heavy, but at least some good ass music came out of it, right? I suppose we’ll all have our own opinions on that, but while you think about it, check out Eric B. & Rakim on Real Men Drink (lol @ that song title, there’s many more like it on this comp) and indulge in that O.E.! When it comes to the children, Wu Tang is for the children. Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best. The Wu Tang Clan was very influential on my personal musical maturation and that moment at the Grammy Awards when ODB spoke so profoundly is part of the reason why this site is called Blind I For The Kids. Amidst all the current fuckery going on with WTC/Slaughterhouse beefs and what not, I find it important to never forget how strong the Wu was in their collective prime. This gem is their official demo tape from 1992, as gritty as you probably expect, and definitely one to put in your archives for when your kids revert to thinking Wu Tang is a Chinese orange drink. So without further ado, check out this rare joint “Cuttin Headz” and indulge thine self.

NASTY NAS’ 91 DEMO TAPE

I’ve had this for a minute but recently got a few requests to up it for the Blind I faithful. Nas was about 18 years old when he recorded most of the tracks that were to be featured on his demo tape. His lyrical prowess was astonishing for a 18 year old kid, but what was even crazier was that he dropped out of school in 8th grade and still managed to be so technically sound with his wordplay and vocabulary. Attribute that to his study of the Five Percenter lessons, the Bible, and the Qu’ran. Long story short, Nas was and continues to be a rebel to America. Grab this piece of history and throw it in the archives for a rainy day when you feel like stunting on someone.
