Right. So I do NOT know how I missed this, but about a month ago Atlanta-based band Cloudeater dropped their second album Sun and Sidearm. Unlike the last post they’re asking you to ~~not be a cheapass~~ support their musical efforts by purchasing the album off iTunes (link below). The full album stream is still below for the skeptics (why you would feel the need to be skeptical with this band is beyond me…but I digress) so lend it an ear and then throw the cool cats some scratc mommy- and daddy-o ‘s. I’ve been telling you about BCB for a minute now. I’ve been telling you about all things Robin Hannibal come to think of it. The Copenhagen Kang always & I mean ALWAYS seems to create the perfect groove. BCB for those that do not know are comprised of Robin Hannibal of Quadron, Ronnie Vindahl, Thomas Bisballe, and David Cytryn; with additional vocal contributions from Coco O of Quadron and Liv Lykke. The group was formed due to their common “love of hip hop, soul and funk,” meeting once a week to share everyone’s music, while helping each other with pointers. The casual meetings amongst friends evolved into the loose collective now known as Boom Clap Bachelors, showing their various influences from the likes of D’Angelo, J Dilla, SA-RA, Erykah Badu, as well as 70s and 80s Danish music.

Today, enjoy the stream to the entire EP. The EP is now available via iTunes and features a bonus track that is not included in the SoundCloud stream.

Last month, I attended Bilal’s listening session for his upcoming release (we’ve been waiting almost a decade for) Airtight’s Revenge. He chronicled each song reflectively, explaining the personal meaning behind each track. This is a very emotional record for the singer, with traces of politics, passion, and resilience sprinkled throughout it. He said Bilal fans that are looking for love songs are going to discover a new side of him through this project. It’s a very different sound from what you’re probably expecting. It might be a grower for some. But as it blared through the speakers, the people in the room were moved at points. It’s heavy and beautiful at the same time. And the songwriting is Bilal at his finest. Here are some snippets. I think “All Matter” is my favorite. September 14th it’s all yours. Streams after the jump. Indulge.

Yesterday was a sad day for music as we lost another one of our fore fathers in soul. The great Teddy Pendergrass lost his battle with colon cancer on Wednesday January 13th 20X. I will always remember him for the greatness that he gave us all. Jay Cee made an ill podcast in tribute to Teddy P that really needs no introduction or list of tracks to tell you that it is a must have for any true aficionado. We miss & love you brother Teddy. Rise in Power.
