YES, YES, YES, we’re at it again this year for CMJ with the 2nd annual ONYX showcase featuring some of Blind I’s favorite acts! The lineup is crazy, as we’ve got dope ass performances lined up from The Stuyvesants, yours truly (Sulaiman), Tennille, L.E. for the Uncool, Raj Mahal, Carlitta Durand, and TiRon & Ayomari! A very soulful, dope-filled roster of talent to make the night of Wednesday, October 19th at Southpaw in Brooklyn a night to remember! MELANIE FIONA
Melanie Fiona is a bright, young R&B artist and Kanye West protégé from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Born Melanie Hall, the singer grew up in inner-city Toronto to Guayanese parents. Fiona developed a passion for music at an early age, influenced by groups and artists such as the Ronettes and Whitney Houston. It’s no surprise, then, that she offers a throwback retro sound to complement her immaculate voice. Though she has been active in the music industry since 2002, her first recorded release came with Reggae Gold 2008, in the form of the track “Somebody Come Get Me.” The track was instantly acclaimed as a highlight, as well as a fan favorite on the album, and it helped her get signed to Universal Motown. Fiona released her debut single, “Give It to Me Right,” which samples “Time of the Season” by the Zombies. Fiona’s melismatic and dynamic vocal propelled the single to the Top 20 on the Canadian Hot 100, in addition to charting on the ~Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart. Her debut album, The Bridge, was released in the fall of 2009, and was a Top 25 album on the Canadian Album Chart. The album which was spearheaded by Andrea Martin, and its lead single also charted in the U.K. and Italy. She is also known for being the opening act on Kanye West’s European tour in 2008, which is notable because she hadn’t even released an album at the time of the tour.

MARSHA AMBROSUIS
Shortly after the end of her gold-selling R&B act Floetry, singer, songwriter, and producer Marsha Ambrosius — whose biggest claim to fame as a writer is Michael Jackson’s Top 20 hit “Butterflies” — signed with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label. Nothing came from the short-lived alliance. However, Ambrosius eventually signed with J Records, where she finally released her first official solo album — Late Nights & Early Mornings — in 2011. While in creative limbo, she was nonetheless active, issuing a handful of mixtapes and collaborating with Alicia Keys (“Go Ahead”), Mario (“Why”), Jazmine Sullivan (“Music [All I Need]”), Jamie Foxx (“Freak’in Me”), and Wale (“Diary”)

I’m proud of my team as we’re an OFFICIAL sponsor along with the OFFICIAL coordinator of the Lollapalooza festival lineup, C3 Presents, our homies at YeaMan! and KnuckleRumbler, and RubyHornet to bring Chicago the OFFICIAL Lollapalooza Hip-Hop Afterparty. Sorry Breaux, I’ve been swamped! My homies over at Ends/Wealth Corp had a very dope event recently at Black Market Caviar as they released some new designs for their line, and of course the kid had to slide through to check out the festivities and give out some daps & pounds. The Ends/Wealth product is very dope and always stays at a premium level of quality, so definitely check out what they have to offer.
