DJ EKOGIRL – SOULIFE
My homie DJ EkoGirl made a nice mix of soulful goodness that y’all need to DL. In her own words…
Soulife is the nuSoul sound I’m most well-known for at a residency called Kiss.?some well-known heavy hitters in there with new tracks: Alicia, Sade ~ some really fly remixes: Stardust, Erykah+Bisope, Bugz ~ some super amazing new music from: Electric Wire Hustle, Fat Freddy’s drop ~ and then a lot of unfamiliar staples that have been in my soul crates for a few years to round it out.it definitely could use some woofer-love for the low end on the dubstep at the front.I hope you like it too.. but really.. I do. and that’s why I do it. It’s SUCH a pleasure to share it with you.
love,
Ekogirl

DANDIGGITY PRESENTS: ECLECTICUTS VOL.11

Once again the barber shop is open for business giving you the freshest beats from the left and right side of the blade. Sorry about being late again this month. My house was robbed last Friday and they took a lot of ish from my family. It has been a big headache on top of running a convenience store as well.
Anyway I hope you all have been kickin’ it at BBQ’s, the beach, or anywhere sun related. But if you’re hustling like me to make magic happen, kudos to you!
Plenty of tasty treats in this volume to hold you ’til the next one.
Man, it will be almost one year since I joined Blind-I.

Hey! Once again, it’s that time for my monthly compilation. After we lost Michael Jackson, I pulled out a lot of old soul music to stroll down memory lane a bit.  I’m an 80’s baby but this music was consistently BLARING throughout the house when I was a kid. It feels like home when I listen. I’ve also been feeling inspired by the summertime and the inner-city beauty in my Harlem backyard. You will recognize some of these because the classics always get sampled, but I picked some low-key ones too. I definitely spent more time putting this together than I normally do so let me know if the music moves you the way it moves me. XO

BLIND I FEATURE-THE LATIN PROJECT
When The Latin Project arrived in our inbox, being the curious musical purveyors we pride ourselves to be, we checked it out. While playing La Musica De La Noche, we heard a unique synergy of Bossa Nova, Afrobeat, Reggaeton, Down-Tempo and Lounge.  Nearly six years after releasing their Grammy-nominated debut, Nueva Musica, The Latin Project is back with a diverse sophomore set. The album features rising talents like Debi Nova (who appears on Sa-Ra’s Nuclear Evolution) and eclectic remixes of jazzier vets like Bebel Gilberto. Blind I chatted with Jez Colin to get some background on the group and explore the elements of the Latin Electronica genre.

DANDIGGITY PRESENTS: ECLECTICUTS VOL.9

Okay. I know I’m late (yet again) on delivering the goods. But I have good reasons why the goods are late. I’m opening up a store, so I’ve been rushing around getting things squared off with the family and the city (mark azz busters).
Anyways, you know what time it is! So this month I’m returning to the good ol’ sounds of Hip Hop and its ilk. This will go nicely at your next BBQ, poolside, car cruse function. But, you don’t have to take my word for it!

FRANCIS AND THE LIGHTS AND FOUR TET [LIVE!!!]
Damn I wanna go to this! Mai you better go to this! BLIND I YOU BEST GO TO THIS!!
Coming up this Saturday Mister Saturday Night got a funky, jerky, percussive mix of early Peter Gabriel and Prince in the form of the theatrical and wildly entertaining Francis and the Lights playing upstairs in the main room. Be sure to check out the video link after the jump to see main man Francis in mesmerizing form.
Downstairs they will have a very special DJ performance from the hugely talented Four Tet aka Kieran Hebden, a man whose music and DJ sets
eschews techno, jazz, folk and pretty much everything in between.

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA’S INAUGURATION SPEECH [IN TEXT]
My fellow citizens:
I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.
Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because we the people have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebears, and true to our founding documents.
So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans.
That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.
These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics. Less measurable but no less profound is a sapping of confidence across our land — a nagging fear that America’s decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights.

CAMPAIGN WRECKS & EFFECTS: WILL “BRADLEY” REAR ITS UGLY HEAD IN NOVEMBER?
Chances are, you’ve heard chatter on CNN or MSNBC about the “Bradley Effect”. Named for Tom Bradley, a candidate in the 1982 California Gubernatorial Race, it refers to instances when a number of Whites who claim to have voted for a Black candidate were lying, which skews the predictions of the outcome. In simplest terms, say you have 100 voters at a particular polling place. In exit polls (when someone asks you who you voted for after it is said and done), 80 people claim to have voted for Candidate A. The other 20 voted for Candidate B.  But when the votes are counted, Candidate B receives 49 votes. Basically, folks lied.

Tom Bradley and the people who treated him
Tom Bradley was predicted to win via exit poll data, but in fact lost. The same suspicious phenomenon has occurred in a number of other races: Jesse Jackson for President, Harold Washington for Mayor of Chicago, Douglass Wilder for Governor of Virginia, David Dinkins for Mayor of New York City, etc. While some of these races were still won by the Black candidate, the margin of victory was not consistent with the number of people who had claimed to have voted for them.
With McCain/Palin rallies starting to resemble lynching parties, one can’t help but to wonder how ready this county is for a Black president. But while we know where the loud and proud McCain supporters stand…what about the other White (or Asian or Latino folks)? Those who travel in circles where Obama is the candidate of choice, but who may quietly feel otherwise? Who are publicly supporting the Blue ticket because they are afraid of being called a racist if they claim otherwise…and are actually unable/unwilling/unsure about voting a Black man for President? › Read More…
