BRAINSTORM REMIXES VOL. 1

What’s up Blind I faithful? I wanted to drop a special project on you guys that I’ve been working on for the past couple of days for your enjoyment. I looked up one day at my iTunes and realized that alot of my favorite joints were remixes I’d compiled in my years of digging, so logically I decided to make up a dope mix of some of the iller tracks. Little did I know how many dope remixes there were, so I’ve decided to make this a Volume 1 of however many more to come. This one is pretty eclectic, but all of the tracks go pretty hard. I tried to eliminate any of the typical remixes that I feel everyone probably already has, and focus on the more obscure, banging ass joints that you know we at Blind I like to bring. GHOST DOG

He looks like Forest Whitaker, kinda sounds like Biggie Smalls. The first time I heard D.O.E. his name was John Doe. He was signed to Beat Club Records and like many artists on the label he seemed destined to live up to his name (a lot of Beat Club artists flopped, fyi). This was probably in the spring of 2005, around the time LL Cool J claimed that he was being called Big L’ey on his single, Headsprung. Unlike Ms.Jade and Bubba Sparxxx, who faded into XXL milk cartons, John Doe stuck around and became D.O.E.. Beat Club turned into the Mosley Music Group. Nelly Furtado became relevant again by becoming promiscuous like birdz instead of flying like a bird. Justin Timberlake became famous for junk in a box and Timbaland made synths cool again in Hip Hop.

So with Timbaland’s sudden prominence in music again, it would make perfect sense to try breaking an artist, right? Right? Well, not quite. At least not yet. When I first heard the Timbaland produced Rollin’ I could see the video in my mind. The scene is the desert. Lil’ Jon is screaming his ad libs while riding shotgun in a 6-4. Scenes of people rollin’ in hoods across America, some riding dirty, some D.W.B. D.O.E. with sunglasses, 1 hand on the wheel, bellowing his lyrics. It coulda been a 106 & Park favorite at the time, but it never happened. Well, I am not a director, D.O.E. is living up to his name and Timbaland must be too busy chugging protein shakes, creatine and producing for genre-bending Canadian singers to care. So, D.O.E., here is to you getting the shine you deserve, one way or another.
