I was hoping the cover would be complete in time for me to post this on Dilla’s birthday. But, I’m glad that we waited a little bit because it allowed me listen to the songs a few more times, and make some last-minute tweaks. I’ve decided to theme my Rendezvous mixes this year in order to challenge myself and take them to the next level. It’s February, so doing a tribute to one of my favorite producers and a true visionary was the first thing that came to mind. Most people who visit Blind I are avid collectors of Dilla’s material, so there are probably no songs that we’ve left out over the years (see: No’s Dilla Vol. 1 and 2). So instead, I pulled together some of my favorites; group and solo material, original samples and music from unrelated artists that give me similarly warm vibes. I hope you enjoy. So this was an idea I had back in 2007. $ even made me a cover & everything & I never put it out. I decided to pull from that & make this to give y’all for this months edition of NKD, thus we going back in time, to a place where I was coming up as a MC I bumped the schitt outta everything on this edition. Broken tape decks & everythang! This past Saturday I was up @ my DJ W1shOne’s Audio Playground all day working on a mix of this for y’all but was not able to complete it the way I wanted to within such a short time, thus, expect a mix with songs that are not on this to be intertwined with some of these songs & more a lil down the road this year. Ill drop it randomly so stay TUNEd for that. Until then, go inside my mind/ears & enjoy some NOstalgia.

We’re going to South America with this one! From Philly to Rio de Janeiro, from Cali to São Paulo, from the D to Pelourinho to Brooklyn to Salvador & right into your NKD collection! Those that know me, know that I am a huge fan of Bossa Nova/Brazilian music. It blew up by mainly young musicians & college students in the 1960′s & since then has continued to be a influence in todays music from Koop to Nouvelle Vague & Jneiro Jarel. Bossanova rhythmically has Samba foundations , while harmonically the structure lies in Jazz going from sophisticated to dissonant. I am a sucka for dissonance, thus why Stevie, Dilla & Bossa Nova/Brazilian music are my all time favorites. I took my time with this one & hope you enjoy it as much I did putting it together. No’s a boss on Bossanova…gone!

Whattup Blind I faithful! I truly apologize for not droppin this on the 15th (the day NKD’s are scheduled to drop) but the truth of the matter is that (in the words of my momz) ‘I am burning the candle @ both ends’ by doing ’4 much’ these daze! But ya know what I say… I’ll rest when I’m dead. So with that being said, let’s get to it! I had 5 songs that I had previously selected a month ago for this months edition. The rest was compiled all damn day today. There were songs I had in mind for this comp but needed a lil help in obtaining so with that I say a SPECIAL JEDI THANK YOU TO: J Peepz, Platurn, Pickster,Â Dandiggity, G-Wrex & Goldenchyld. G-Wrex & Goldenchyld of The Bangerz were in the lab yesterday & created a blend of Pharrell’s That Girl to Dert’s Venus Morning (featured on his last project Talk Strange) . Aight, so as the faithful know I always like to try and introduce you to some new schitt & we have had a track or two here n there with some of the cats on this comp, but one in particular that I wanna highlight is the ever so talented 1O.A.K. of the Honor Roll. We did a show with PPP & Trackademics not too long ago out in SF & 1O.A.K. rocked the stage with Tracks. There was a song they had performed which is a cover of The Cure’s Lovecats and schitt was flava to fif! So yeah, I got that on here for you to fall in love with. Another artist I wanna shout out is the homie Merk from the Popp Roxx click outta SF (okay, so I’m highlighting some Yay folks… I just realized that… fuck it… CA ALL DAY! hahahaha). Popp Roxx is Kuddy Roc, Merk, Sin & Casso (Fredo) and they bringing that schitt! As you can see that last got scratched out… this was all typed up 2 days ago, last night the homie said to fall back on puttin it out cuz they wanna mixdown/master it 1st, so with all due respecognition I took it off and replaced it with some New Exclusive Black Thought over a J Dilla banger! Happy Holidays to all my cats who partake of that greenery to enjoy the scenery! â„¢
