DOWNLOAD TO DONATE CAMPAIGN (LUPE FIASCO, KENNA, MIKE SHINODA…)

DOWNLOAD(3HAITIKinda tardy, but you can never be too tardy for a good cause. MusicForRelief.org amassed a great team of donors and celebrities to contribute to create the Download To Donate campaign, with names like Linkin Park, Dave Matthews Band, Peter Gabriel, Alanis Morissette, Slash, The All-American Rejects, Hoobastank, Kenna, Enrique Iglesias and Lupe Fiasco contributing tracks to support the effort. Clearly the standout track for most Blind I enthusiasts is the Mike Shinoda-produced Resurrection, featuring Lupe Fiasco and Kenna. LESS DOWNLOADING, MORE STREAMING

free-music-trendsNow don’t jump the gun just yet. This by no means is saying that downloading is dead, but rather, people are finding ways of little or no monetary sacrifice to listen to any music they come across. Services like Pandora, Last.fm and Blip.fm, along with the mobile ease of iPhones and Blackberries, are making it increasingly idiotic to be scouring the internet all day like yours truly looking for that new new. One thing that it doesn’t incorporate, however, is the up-and-coming factor - those acts who may not have their music available on streaming applications or may find it financially difficult to do so. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA’S INAUGURATION SPEECH [IN TEXT]

My fellow citizens:

I stand here today humbled by the task before us, grateful for the trust you have bestowed, mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. I thank President Bush for his service to our nation, as well as the generosity and cooperation he has shown throughout this transition.

Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath. The words have been spoken during rising tides of prosperity and the still waters of peace. Yet, every so often the oath is taken amidst gathering clouds and raging storms. At these moments, America has carried on not simply because of the skill or vision of those in high office, but because we the people have remained faithful to the ideals of our forebears, and true to our founding documents.

So it has been. So it must be with this generation of Americans.

That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war, against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.

These are the indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics. Less measurable but no less profound is a sapping of confidence across our land — a nagging fear that America’s decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights.

IMAGINE HAVING YOUR OWN PERSONAL MUSEUM…

I needed to post this up on Blind I because of the shear epicity of this collection. Please, read and enjoy. via Wired Magazine

Browse the Artifacts of Geek History in Jay Walker’s Library

By Steven Levy 09.22.08

From King James to James Bond, Chaucer to Sputnik, a personal library like no other.
Photo: Andrew Moore

The View From Above Looming over the library is an original Sputnik 1 satellite, one of several backups the Soviets built. At far left is a model of NASA’s experimental X-29 jet, with forward-swept wings. “It’s the first plane that a pilot can’t fly—only computers can handle it,” Walker says. On the top of the center shelves are “scholar’s rocks,” natural formations believed by the Chinese to spur contemplation. Behind the rocks is a 15-foot-long model of the Saturn V rocket.

Nothing quite prepares you for the culture shock of Jay Walker’s library. You exit the austere parlor of his New England home and pass through a hallway into the bibliographic equivalent of a Disney ride. Stuffed with landmark tomes and eye-grabbing historical objects—on the walls, on tables, standing on the floor—the room occupies about 3,600 square feet on three mazelike levels. Is that a Sputnik? (Yes.) Hey, those books appear to be bound in rubies. (They are.) That edition of Chaucer … is it a Kelmscott? (Natch.) Gee, that chandelier looks like the one in the James Bond flick Die Another Day. (Because it is.) No matter where you turn in this ziggurat, another treasure beckons you—a 1665 Bills of Mortality chronicle of London (you can track plague fatalities by week), the instruction manual for the Saturn V rocket (which launched the Apollo 11 capsule to the moon), a framed napkin from 1943 on which Franklin D. Roosevelt outlined his plan to win World War II. In no time, your mind is stretched like hot taffy.

SWAGGER LIKE HERS?

M.I.A. recently introduced her limited-edition unisex clothing line, Okley Run, during New York Fashion Week. Aside from T-shirts for fans, the line offers her signature: vibrant ethnic patterns, tanks, hoodies and American Apparel-ish leggings. The prices are stupid. M.I.A. definitely pairs things together that you wouldn’t catch me in, but I appreciate that she has her own unique sense of style.

Peep a few of the threads here and share your thoughts.

Sidebar- Don’t you find it curious that people are just now discovering M.I.A. after “Paper Planes?” Kala has been out for over a year…

VOTE OR DIE, NO, SRSLY

Hey, look who’s bizack! I know it’s been a long time since you’ve heard from Blind I’s resident hater player, but alas Sister Toldja has returned. You know you missed me.

Anyway, I got something serious to talk to y’all about and I hope you’re listening. Now, the Hip-Hop community is all abuzz with Obama fever these days. Cats are shouting him out on songs (for better or worse), you see his face plastered on t-shirts all up and down the ave, etc. But did you know that 8 MILLION Black folk in this country aren’t registered to vote? And that had Ohio’s 270,000 unregistred Black voters stepped up to the plate, the state could have been won in the 2004 election? Had the same occurred in Florida as well, we could have avoided the past eight years of misery. And NOW look what we are facing:

Mickey and Mallory 2008

Mickey and Mallory 2008

It is my fear that if John McCain and Sarah “You gotta be fucking kidding me” Palin are elected, we will all actually die. This is what I would imagine his first day in the Oval Office would look like…more info after the jump. › Read More…

Pick A Shore

pickashore1.jpg
Want to know how much I love Blind I? I think I will spend 5 minutes telling you why I do. Sometimes I have to write about artists like (*dies*) Flo-Rida. That’s why in spring 07, I submitted my app to become a part of the team. I was instantly sold after my first visit. It’s refreshing to mesh with a crop of folks that are not afraid to delve into good music. To be atypical and forward-thinking, and highlight what’s new in the market. The boys have the new new on smash, so I guess my niche is the archives and I find it delightful.
I got the title “Pick a Shore” after Mr. Right Now asked me where we will be going this spring. Warm, drum heavy, sexy tunes for your vacay. Break out your beach chair. Where is your passport taking you? I plan to kick my heels up in Santorini. Travel is important for the soul. If you are hitting anybody’s beach, please bring this comp along. $ stank you for the fabulous globe art!

Love as usual.
