From the earliest Stones Throw releases Peanut Butter Wolf was putting out, to Subcontents, to the F*cking Mutants & so on, Dave “The Baron” Dub has made more than a name for himself. He has built a legacy. Super triple O.G.’s in the game know what’s up & so should you if you do not. He recently recorded a track with Geoff Barrow (yes… the man behind Portishead) & as of yesterday, just dropped an album on M9 Entertainment, which is Myka 9‘s label. The Baron has always been known as the San Jose veteran MC with the ill rhymes & overall takeover presence but what most don’t know is his love for punk. Yes. Punk. The album is entitled Mind Police & is an homage to classic punk such as Bad Brains, Black Flag & Fugazi. Peep the single “Love Lost“…

MIXTAPE: MED – BANG YA HEAD III
MED drops his 3rd installment of his Bang Ya Head series. MED has been always been one of my favorites coming out of The OX and I’m really excited for his upcoming album 2011 via Stones Throw.
In the mean time, check out this free download of his current mixture “Bang Ya Head III” mixed by DJ Romes of The Lootpack. The mix of music on here is really dope, so hope you get a chance to listen to it. Both production and guest features are on-point, and include folks like Madlib, J Rocc, Georgia Ann Muldrow, DJ Babu, Wildchild, Khalil, and others.

MACHINEDRUM – LET IT (FEATURING MELO X)
I present a gem of a release by MachineDrum featuring Melo X entitled Let It. Neck breaking production on the single is notable on all tunes including the remixes by heavy hitters Edit and Lazer Sword. The big boom blap slap is well accompanied by Melo X‘s lyrical delivery. The extra track, Flud, is actually my fave from the release. It’s slow and moody vibe will have you wishing there were more than two minutes in the tune. Word on the street is that “copies have landed” of the EP, but since the official release isn’t until 11/2/10 this single will have to do for now.

That’s some smooth shit right there. Finger licking good even. A perfect video for the last embers of Summer to burn off into the Fall.
J DILLA – DONUT SHOP (FREE EP)
Stones Throw comes through today blessing the world with goodness. Here’s the posthumous Donut Shop EP from the great Jay Dee aka J Dilla, containing some cool things including the instrumentals to Q-Tip’s ‘Move’, Mos Def’s ‘History’, the Safety Dance track that dropped a few months ago, and a few others. But I’ve said too much, you can check out Bars & Twists and then hit the direct download from Stones Throw. Partake!

Now Stones Throw would kill us if we let you have this for free, but it’s so dope that you’ve gotta listen and hopefully you’ll do the right thing and cop down. Mayer Hawthorne linked up with one of my favorite producers going, the incomparable Nottz, and created this gem of a recording.
