When Georgia Anne Muldrow and DJ Romes wondertwin unite they become the predictably funky duo The Blackhouse. Today they let loose the track Somali off of their recent self-titled collaborative effort (which can be copped here). Definitely reminds me of the Deep House music I grew up listening to back in Chicago, which is the complete opposite of a bad thing. ESPECIALLY my fellow East Coast people dealing with all this post-Sandy mess. New Yorkers will need something funky to listen to after having to deal with THIS to get to work this morning. Smh. I love when I get a chance to revel in the works of one of my favorite producers, and it only makes sense that on the first day of summer we turn up the HEAT with this new podcast from our homies at Stones Throw highlighting some of the credits that Karriem Riggins has amassed over the years. We’re talking about work for the likes of Erkyah Badu, The Roots, J. Dilla, Slum Village, Common, Dwele….amongst being one of today’s most in demand jazz drummers, playing with jazz heroes which include Hank Jones, Oscar Peterson, Milt Jackson, Donald Byrd, etc while collaborating with Paul McCartney on his first studio release in five years. Karriem also is Diana Krall’s drummer and tours the world with her band. Karriem Riggins’ “Alone Together” album will be landing soon for your enjoyment, but for now, partake in this goodness.
