I’m late on this review and that’s a shame because Sonnymoon are homies and cherished artists here at Blind. More so, I’m personally late! I been MIA for a minute here on the site. Sorry folks. Trust, it was within good reasons too. Anyway, lets get on with the review. Check it out after the drop.

The 2012 EP is an album of haunting beauty. If their Golden Age LP represents the coming dawn, then this EP is an evening song. The layers of subtle electronic drums and hypnotic vocals from Anna Wise build bright lights in the listeners mind.

The opening track “Near Me” is a longing love song for future lovers. Its gospel is grounded in the tenderness of the lyrics and progressiveness of the beat. The rhythmic pulse of “Goddess” washes over like an ocean enveloping the night sky horizon. And just like feeling the sun on your skin the instrumental track “Morning Person” breaks over your ears in soft, lush droplets until the end as it transforms into a rush of color. “Machinery” finds Anna breaking her words like a clockwork angel as Dane’s production takes you deeper into the core of our relationships with electronics. The last track “Magician” is not so much a swan song to the EP as it is more a “see you next time”. They’re not giving it all away.

With the inclusion of the mndsgn bossa nova remix “Magicans” this EP is a solid offering from this duo on their new label Plug Research. We cannot wait to see what is in store for our friends Sonnymoon, but we know whatever it is, it will be quality.

It has only been two weeks since Sonnymoon blessed us with their 2012 EP and it’s been playing nonstop! The pair just released a new video for “Morning Person,” and producer Dane Orr really shines on this one. The video has a simplistic elegance to it. When our dear friends  Sonnymoon sent us their latest EP: 2012 via email, it didn’t take but a five minutes for the whole staff to stop what we were doing and listen. The five-song project sent all of us into a euphoric tailspin, as we discussed their updated sound. It’s still the same Sonnymoon we fell in love with circa Golden Age, but it seems as if they’ve turned up the voltage a bit on this one. When this remix came up in my Twitter feed I literally did a double check to make sure Beyonce and Sonnymoon were being used in the same sentence. The only musical similarity between each songstress is that they have a strong command of their beautiful voices. But it is true- our favorite dynamic duo, notorious for their amazing covers, has reworked Beyonce’s “Yes” from Ms. Knowles’ debut album. You already know Dane, the production half, put the Sonnymoon stamp on this one. Partake!

Blind I faithful, I almost didn’t do it. I looked at the new music that the world had to offer, at our submissions, and I just didn’t feel like what was presented was strong enough to make it to GO! You know me, them ordinary things don’t move me. I need some shit straight out the movies, word to Mighty Mos. So, being the critical mind that I am, I scoured my music database for what felt right, refreshing, and in taste with my current mood of happiness, hard work, and the chase of perfection.
