Sis. Toldja Is Always Angry
FROM THE “WINDOW” TO THE BACK SEAT…
The internet was all abuzz these past few days with two very different women making two very different revelations. Erykah Badu’s body-bearing “Window Seat” gave everyone something to think about, whereas Kat Stacks’s groupie tales made us shake our heads. However, there is a notable connection here. Walk with me for a second.

All tragic everything
Erykah shed her clothes to, as I understand it, make a statement about groupthink and how the culture of this country strikes down those who refuse to conform. In using her body to make this statement, the singer also presents some other very important commentary in the process. By striding through the streets of Dallas naked as the day she was born, without the aid of foundation garments or editing tricks to enhance her frame, Badu informs us that she is the owner of her body. She knew very well that her nudity would be interpreted very differently than say, Alanis Morrisette’s in “Thank You” or D’Angelo in “Untitled (How Does It Feel)”. Embodying Star Jones’ code of “free, Black and grown“, Badu allowed herself to be vulnerable in a very powerful way. And the conversations sparked thus far have certainly made her efforts seem worth it.
Something To Prove?

Months after “Fiascogate”, the debacle following Lupe’s remarks about A Tribe Called Quest and his shitty tribute performance at the Hip-Hop Honors, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that Lu has called Jeezy and T.I. in for the “Superstar” remix. And he’s got a joint with Bun B hitting the streets soon.
 *sigh*
So, I suppose this is to convince all “da haterz” that Lupe is NOT a concious backpacker nerd and he DOES roll with the thugs! Ok, so make sure you get it straight- Lupe did NOT grow up on Tribe, De La or Brand Nubian. He is a G! He listened to Eightball and MJG for Chrissakes! He is hard! He does songs with the gangstas and the pimps, homey. You better recognize!
Meanwhile, am I the only one a little confused? I’m not saying a skateboarder can’t dig on Southern Pimp Rap, or whatever. But it seems that the messages in Lupe’s music would be antithetical to a Jeezy, a T.I. or a Snoop Dogg. Doesn’t quite make sense to me. Same thing for that bullshit “Country Cousins” joint on Kweli’s Eardrum. These aren’t just any Southern rappers, this is UGK. These niggas are (er, were) the WORST when it came to glorifying drug use and treating women like objects. I know nobody is perfect, nor one-dimentional….but am I the only one who feels like this is Lupe dumbing it down????
Dear Robert
ÂÂ
I have been a longtime opponent of your….well, of you. As a Chicago girl, born and raised, I have heard enough about your dealings with little girls to form a strong opinion about your pending charges. And there is, of course, that tape….yeah, no doubt about it. You said it best a long time ago: you’re a “Bad Man”.
Yet, instead of taking some time off or pretending to get “saved” again, here you are in everyone’s face making music that is increasingly terrible. And if seeing you run around in a Zorro mask for a couple years or in the embarrasingly stupid “Trapped In The Closet” series wasn’t bad enough, now you want to not only rap…but make DISS records? Against Ne-Yo? Word? Ne-Yo has never had a fight that couldn’t be settled over a cup of tea and a few ladyfingers, I promise.

They never should have gave you, nigga, money.
I implore…wait, you don’t know what that means…..I ask you to please, Robert, please just stop. Don’t make anymore music. You stopped being good years and years ago. Walk away with what little legacy you may be able to salvage. Get involved in the church (stay away from the youth ministry, I beg you!). Spend time with your family. Learn to read. But just please stay out of the studio. On the “Flashing Lights” remix talking about “Stand up and be accounted…”, you fucking fool!
Please, Robert, take the complementary watch and be out.
Can We Agree To Disagree With Him Now?
I would buy the new Cunninglinguist record straight off the strength of this right here:
 *Sigh*
It feels like I’m beating a dead horse here, but the record hasn’t dropped yet….so I guess we’ll be talking about this “Nigger” for a while, eh?
To save space for more important things, I won’t post the interview here, I’ll just run the story down briefly: Nas and some broads (including at least one White girl) and Kelis came to the Grammys in “Nigger” shirts to promote the record NO ONE is checking for. Some poor White lady had to interview him for CNN.  With the opportunity to prove all us naysayers wrong and drop some serious science about his “movement”, Nas rambled a whole lot of nothing and said something about how we are all niggers and how Black people are gonna lose the right to vote. Then Kelis, completely ignored and unrecognized by the interviewer, rushes to say something about “John Lennon had a song called ‘Woman Is The Nigger Of The World’, you know”, making the whole thing more confusing and messy. So, in a nutshell, Nas has probably lost the support of any halfway reasonable person who was even considering riding with this thing.
Hush!
You know what I hate? When a mixtape DJ is talking through half the damn mix. Oooh, especially on slow jam or R&B CD’s. SHUT UP! How are you getting in the mood with some dude yelling “You know what time it is, son! This is for all the ladies….in the five boroughs….Brooklyn, BX….Queens, Manhattan….big shout out to Harlem…Staten Island, where you at?” That may make me put my bra back on.
I got this one slow jam mix a few weeks ago called Dirty Luv . It’s quite good and the blends are tight. But the DJ, Dirty Harry keeps talking. And it’s not just him talking, it’s him AND Angie Martinez! I’m not a big fan of hers. She killed her little verse on “Ladies Night” back in the day, but now that I get to hear her on the radio….meh. She’s a little too mannish for my taste, especially on this mixtape. I DEFINITELY don’t want to hear her voice at sexy time. On one of the songs they RANDOMLY threw on her rap monologue from Yvette Michele’s “I’m Not Feeling You”. You got a romantic song playing, and Angie Martinez talking about “I saw you with her. Your alcoholic secretary with the bad feet”. WTF?
Mixtape CD’s, please resolve to STFU in 2008. And keep bringing the heat!

Got Yourself A….?
I need a gun. ![]()
Naw, seriously. Why is it that we have the constitutional right to bear arms, but we can’t well, bear arms? In New York City, where I live, you can pay $300 a year to have a gun at the crib, but you can’t get a carry permit unless you work in law enforcement. That’s some straight bull. If someone runs up on me in the crib, there’s probably 99 things I could assault him with. But if I get caught on the street or in my car (which has happened before), I’m out here bogus.
I live in Brooklyn and I work Newark. That alone should be reason for me to have “a real small gat in my purse” a la YoYo. I guess the thought is that more guns in the street would equal more shootings. Well hell, some of these fools out here NEED to be shot! Wouldn’t the police rather get a call saying “Nuck Nuck and Ray Ray are dead. They tried to rob the wrong person. Please come clean up the mess.” as opposed to investigating the homicide of some people who actually deserve to live? › Continue reading
Modern Day Sambo
The Sis is you love to hate is back! Pardon my disappearance, just had a lot of real life iddish to deal with. But like Al B. Sure, I’m in effect mode and I’m dusting of my gloves. Who gwan test?
Hip-Hop is the new American Minstrelsy. In the days of Blackface, we were told “You know you people act like this. Have a laugh and stop taking youselves so seriously!” Now, we’re told that guns, slums, violence and drugs are the markers of the authentic black experience, and anyone who dare step out and criticize the genre is a race traitor, or too removed from the community to understand.
