Whattup Blind I faithful! I truly apologize for not droppin this on the 15th (the day NKD’s are scheduled to drop) but the truth of the matter is that (in the words of my momz) ‘I am burning the candle @ both ends’ by doing ‘4 much’ these daze! J DILLA & ILLA J – SHAKE IT DOWN PT.2

Last Friday the bay had the pleasure of seeing Illa J perform tracks off the Yancey Boys album as well as his brothers songs for a tribute. One of the songs Illa J performed was this song down below. I had thought I heard everything Dilla related till I heard this. I mean, the beat I heard, then I heard Pac Div on it, then on the actual release it was Baatin, but THIS version is J Dilla AND his lil bro Illa J spittin on it. It’s a remix/sequel to the song Shake It Down off Dilla’s BBE release, Welcome To Detroit. After the show, when G-Wrex, Stacey, Illa & myself were smoking blunt #476 I asked him if he could send it to me. He did, & this morning I had to send a text asking if I could post it on here for y’all to hear as well. I aint giving you shit, but u can listen to it all u want right here & eNjOy!

DRE DAY

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Menaj- daughter of Dr. Dre and aspiring rapper:

When I first saw this, my initial reaction was “LMAO”, especially at 1:38. Then I felt kinda bad for the girl. It’s not clear what her relationship with Dre is (though the video makes it look like she is waiting outside of his estate unable to enter on a few occasions), but it does seem obvious that her father is not trying to help her with her, er, career (though SOMEBODY gave her a very Dre-eque beat, no?)

But then I really thought about it. Dr. Dre was a member of NWA, a group that I personally believe did more damage to the development of Hip-Hop music than any other single act EVER. He beat up then 19-year-old Dee Barnes in 1991 (not slapped, not punched….BEAT UP) because he didn’t like the way she portrayed NWA in an interview. For nearly two decades, he’s produced some of the most misogynistic, violence-celebrating music to ever exist.

And his sweet reward? A young-adult daughter who wants to follow in daddy’s footsteps, by smoking copious amounts of chronic (hi-YO!) whilst rapping about fucking, shooting and getting money. I don’t think I could have asked for a better payback. And I don’t think Dre should have expected anything less. › Read More…

Haterz Can Pose on These Nutz!!!!

You know this post started out as a response to someone’s comment about the Cool Kids video, but my brain went on so many tangents I had no choice but to make it into a real post. In the world of hip-hop, people are constantly talking about “keeping it real,” and to certain agree I believe this should be the rule of thumb; however if your work is going to shed positive light on something most of the world is underexposed to then I say get the camera on the stand and shoot the flick. Nevertheless, these are just some thoughts of mine over the past 13 years.

Here ye, here ye!!!! We now write amongst the Reigning Kings of who’s real and who’s fake. Who the fuck cares if someone’s posing or not. Lets be real. It’s the way of the music industry and I’m not even saying Cool Kids were but everyone has to feel like they’ve got a leg up on living a lifestyle to the extreme. My anger for this started when I was in grammar school and I used to hear the extra-deep and philosophical hip-hop heads talk about what’s real real hip-hop and what’s not. The only thing that was real to these dudes was some mothafuckas that would do sets in some warehouse basement with a shitload of incense burning and blunts that looked like sequoia trees. Albeit, some of the shit was hot, but others just went off the deep-end to the point where it seemed more like a cult than a genre of music. I didn’t really care about those folks till they took there appreciation for that kind of hip-hop to knock what others liked and how they were living.

So even then I made a vow to help folks appreciate whatever it is they like even if its silly hip-hop or not. As long as its not destructive. Hell, even to this day I listen to Soulja Boy and really don’t give a fuck. So pass that shit to Arab. Why would you need to analyze every little aspect of how someone is living a lifestyle inadequately? Are you scared that the one little thing in life that makes you special won’t quite make you seem that special anymore? Just get your weight up and master your craft whether its skateboarding, biking, or emceeing. Hell, these days every mothafucka produces beats lmao!!!! The real producers don’t take time to shit on folks claiming to be producers while working in mom’s basement. That’s because the real producers know they’re getting 50K – 300k for their track and the Hip-Hop Ejay cat will probably get their friends talking behind their back wishing he would just get a job at Home Depot. I think we should just be glad at the fact that our lifestyles are being exposed to the world in a positive light and others want to emulate us.

Folks pose on my lifestyle everyday. Ugly ass rappers are posing when they surround themselves with pretty chicks in videos and I’m not complaining. (stunt button tap). You don’t see the professional and college hoopers getting mad at basketball videos because they’re secure in knowing that can’t no others fuck with them in that aspect and it actually only makes them look better. I wish a mothafucka would actually pose on my lifestyle more. I’m a highly educated black dude that skis, snowboards, and plays country club sports. I wish more folks thought it was cool to play tennis and wanted to be pros at it. An increasing popularity in that sport would mean even more women I meet would want lessons (and affection) once they found out I was good. The moral of the story is no one likes a hater, even if the hater is talking the truth. Clayton Bigsby of the Chappelle Show said “If you have hate in your heart, let it out,” but I say if you have hate in your heart, get laid.

P.s. it better be no one talking that cyberspace tough guy shit!! And yeah the graphic sucks but the shits funny!
