Remix

ARTHUR VEROCAI & JNEIRO JAREL-BALADA 45 (LIKE A BRAZILIAN GIRL REMIX)

Philly native Jneiro Jarel (a.k.a. Dr. Who Dat?) was heavily influenced by bossanova when he got into music and it has permeated  his sound ever since. He’s sampled  Brazilian legend Arthur Verocai several times, so this remix of “Balada 45″ is an ideal mash up of both of their styles.

Jneiro’s new EP, Android Love Mayhem just dropped last week so if you like what you hear, check him out.

CLASSIC OF THE DAY: IT’S THE REMIX, BABY!

Contrary to popular belief, Diddy in fact did NOT invent the remix.
Don’t worry kids. Blind I’s here to help.

Recently, XXL’s site wrote up a comprehensive list of the Ten Best Hip-Hop Remixes of all time. Being a fan of multiple remixed joints over the years, I was interested to see what songs/artists they featured to crack the top ten. Always a great source for true hip-hop commentary and critiques, they didn’t dissapoint, delivering a top ten that I feel is very hard to disagree with. I, however, took the liberty to find these ten songs, the originals, and a little something special to top it all of and educate some of our “younger” visitors who may not be well versed in the history of things. Partake after the jump. › Continue reading

“STYLE” INVITATIONAL, INDEED.

stylinonyou.gif

It may just be me, but I feel that this election and the recent debates have made me move further and further towards wishing Bill Clinton would run for election again if it was possible. The things this man says makes me reminisce about a time when the president actually knew what he was talking about. I’ve said since day one of Hillary Clinton’s election stint that Bill would be her trump card of sorts, especially with African-Americans. I mean, they even went so far as to ask Obama whether or not he felt Bill Clinton was the first black president. But I’m from Chicago, I’m black, I’m educated, and I STILL see the everyday struggle that so many need a mere symbol of hope to feel like they can still emerge. So I’ve come out with My Obama trump card.

Her name….is Monica Lewinsky.

Yeah. Remember shorty?

Received this in an email and though that it was quite comical:

The Washington Post runs a weekly contest in its Style section called the ‘Style Invitational’.

The requirements this week were to use the two words ‘Lewinsky’ (the Intern) and ‘Kaczynski’ (the Unabomber) in the same limerick.

Now, remember, the following winning entries were actually printed verbatim in the newspaper, no bleeps or xxxs:

Third place:

There once was a girl named Lewinsky
Who played on a flute like Stravinsky
‘Twas ‘Hail to the Chief’
On this flute made of beef
That stole the front
page from Ka! czynski.

Second place:

Said Clinton to young Ms. Lewinsky,
We don’t want to leave clues like Kaczynski, Since you made such a mess,
Use the hem of your dress And please wipe that stuff off your chinsky.

And the winning entry:

Lewinsky and Clinton have shown
What Kaczynski must surely have known,
That an intern is better
Than a bomb in a letter,
When deciding how best to be blown.

And now,

Be easy.
