BLAKROC & DD172….

As the recent publicity surrounding Mos Def, Jay Electronica and Curren$y’s collaborative-side-group Center Edge Territory reached a feverish pitch in the viral music world, questions arose around the studio where said collaboration and countless other secret musical rendezvous are rumored to have occurred. Alas, Mr. Damon Dash, a very familiar face in the trend-setting music mogul world has been behind it all, providing artists with the DD172 space in Tribeca. DD172 seems to be a new hot-spot for brainstorming sessions, musical vanguard, and almost certainly a long, raucous line of eager artists wanting in to create their own masterpieces. For this is how musicians work. We are historians at heart, purists of our art form, and suckers for atmospheres where our creativity can flow at ease. Dash and DD172 have recently partnered up with rock group The Black Keys and artists like Mos Def, Zoe Kravitz, Raekwon, ODB, RZA, Ludacris, Pharoahe Monch, Billy Danze of M.O.P., Om’Mas Keith of Sa-Ra, Tash and more, to create the BlakRoc project, of which we recently posted a video clip on the site. Chicago-bred video mavens Coodie & Chike have spearheaded the coverage of the project as well as Creative Control. Pretty much a creative mash of great proportions! We’ll see what fruitful creations come from this space in the future, but one thing is presently sure: the future is bright for ideas of this magnitude, and I hope it spurs more individuals to create workspaces and projects similar to this one. Great music!

“I gotta do this s**t more often.  I got home from RubyHornet last night, and just decided to put a smooth mix together of fresh music that I think you should know about.  The mix is 12 minutes continuous minutes (hence the title) and features songs from Skyzoo, ADaD, Rakewon, Mos Def, Emilio Rojas, and a remix of Mikkey Halsted’s “Chi S**t”, which also features Mic Terror. RAEKWON – VERBAL INTERCOURSE PT2 (FEAT. GHOSTFACE KILLAH AND NAS)

The joint even got deleted scenes! This is the first “Deleted Scene” from the beat cinematic “City of Gods Son”. As an homage to Raekwon’s “Only Built For Cuban Linx”, this track was created to fill the void of a Nas collaboration that was not on the latest release.  Link below, enjoy.

CITY OF GOD SON- HIP HOP OPERA!!

My dog Kenzo Digital produced this  experimental hip-hop opera “City of God Son” starring Nas, Jay Z, Ghostface, Biggie Smalls, Raekwon, Samuel Jackson, Delroy Lindo, and Laurence Fishburne. It is a crime drama/coming of age tale of three fictitious characters growing up in a crime ridden city in a jungle. This project explores the icon of the gangster in modern media, and weaves musical history and gangster film history into an operatic music based story of brotherhood and survival. An homage to 90’s New York hip-hop, “City of God’s Son” is the redefinition of the remix. Featuring legendary soul singer Joe Bataan. The musical/soundscape portion of the project is available for FREE download on the site or right here.

He recommends listening to  entire project on headphones, at night, eyes closed! Also check out the “cinema for the blind” video he did to really get an idea of how to experience the project.
