I’m going to be honest with you kids, Christmas isn’t really one of my favorite holidays. Outside of the whole family aspect (and Jesus. GP are ya wit me!) I could really do without it. But unlike the cover art may suggest (props to the big homie NO for coming correct btw) this comp is not a Bah-Humbug-a-thon. It’s actually a dedication comp. For December 25, 2010 marks the fourth anniversary of the passing of one of the most influential figures in modern day music – and one of my absolute favorite artist across all genres – James Joseph Brown. Yes. Christmas ’06 was a very shitty day for me. I literally slept for the entire day upon hearing the news. It hurt deep knowing that I would never get to see Mr. Dynamite [a]live on stage. But fortunately for myself and for the world (cliche warning) James Brown’s legacy lives on through his music. Now please excuse me while I continue to defibrillate his legacy with this comp. Two discs and 46 tracks strong of associated acts, covers, samples, and The Godfather of Soul himself.

So you already know the deal & how we feel about the whole departure of the Fat Beats stores. Sucks. But not really cuz they still are going to be doing big thangs in various formats, so I guess it’s cool & growth & all that other jazz. Anyways, the NYC farewell jump off was filled to the brim of dope artists who had made Fat Beat NYC their home so it is only fitting that they mirror the same for the LA farewell & as you can see to the right (click pic to enlarge), that they are NOT playin! I mean DAMN!!! I know the NBA will be playing the All Star game @ Staples this season but this schitt right here my ninja? This is LA’s All Star Hip Hop fest for the ages! You got OG spitters from LA’s underground elite from Erule to Volume 10,  to LA’s G’d up from the chucks up spitters MC Eiht to Kurupt, a face melt of beats from LA producers Dibiase to Exile as well as a performace from the Gawdz of LA style Freestyle Fellowship! What’s good Blind I Faithful? It’s your girl Maiya and your boy NO coming to you with our first joint compilation…GRIMEY! We’ve talked about doing one for ages and finally made it happen. You’d think between our typical comps, it might be pretty eclectic or soulful. THINK AGAIN! Most men assume the ladies have to act/look rough to appreciate some old La the Darkman or N.W.A. (a stereotype I proudly defy).   So, NO and I got our hands dirty in the crates to deliver a gritty, grimy, hardcore mix unlike anything you’ll see on the other blogs.

We literally birthed the idea yesterday morning and completed it in an hour last night. Beginning with my Raekwon “Penitentiary” (The new Rae is ill BTW) we tag teamed track for track throughout the entire thing. Between Gravediggaz, Organized Konfusion and O.C., we got something in store for rap fans that frequent Blind I.
