NO KNOWS DOPE | NO KNOWS BABIES | APRIL 20XI

Last Monday, April 11th at 10:43AM, my daughter Ajané arrived into the world. It was the most beautifulest thing in the world without a doubt. Being “on call” for the whole month of March & April kinda put a roadblock in my head as to what ‘theme’ I wanted to execute for Aprils NKD & as I pondered the thoughts I lowkey was already playing the soundtrack & not even knowing it. Playing songs that I felt related to what I was going through or have gone through or what I want to achieve as a man & as a father to my children. About a week before the 15th (sorry for the delay… been busy changing diapers n schitt. pun.) I finally decided to dedicate this months NKD to the babies. The children. The kids! But no… not on some Yo Gabba Gabba or Kids Sing Along schitt… naw… on some grown folks – grown biz – type of musical growth if you will. Whether you are a mother or a father, raising your sons or daughters, this edition goes harder to marauder & slaughter any biologicals that don’t bother. I breaks water! hahaha Naw pho trill tho… I’m on Cloud 9000 & 99! Blind I For The Kids… literally.

Well the good folks over @ Bonafide Magazine have been putting out a series entitled Bonafied Beats, and for Vol.6 they called on the talents of Luke Vibert. The schitt is like hoppin in a DeLorean of 1.21 gigawatts to late 98/early 99. In Bonafide’s words…

Prince Poetry & Pharoahe Monch better known as Organized Konfusion  dropped the single and title track off their sophomore release “STRESS (THE EXTINCTION AGENDA)” . It was a time when MC’s were stepping into realms unseen, experimenting with various styles and cadences, pushing the lyrical envelope while ominous grooves and tones of dissonance over break beats took prominence. An album you MUST have if you are an MC or just a fan of resickulous freshness when it comes to music. What’s good Blind I Faithful? It’s your girl Maiya and your boy NO coming to you with our first joint compilation…GRIMEY! We’ve talked about doing one for ages and finally made it happen. You’d think between our typical comps, it might be pretty eclectic or soulful. THINK AGAIN! Most men assume the ladies have to act/look rough to appreciate some old La the Darkman or N.W.A. (a stereotype I proudly defy).   So, NO and I got our hands dirty in the crates to deliver a gritty, grimy, hardcore mix unlike anything you’ll see on the other blogs.

We literally birthed the idea yesterday morning and completed it in an hour last night. Beginning with my Raekwon “Penitentiary” (The new Rae is ill BTW) we tag teamed track for track throughout the entire thing. Between Gravediggaz, Organized Konfusion and O.C., we got something in store for rap fans that frequent Blind I.

Yup!! It seems the older I get the more I appreciate schitt that I always appreciated, but on a totally differnt level. Maybe because the game is saturated with bullshit all recylcing the same bullshit over and over…but case n fuckin point… Since Lupe’s whole scenario (no pun intended) I feel it necessary since I got this site to edumacate those not fully in the know of some of our greats.

OK was the group back in the day! Growing up in a thriving Los Angeles hip hop scene that was all about Freestyle Fellowship as far as “styling” was concerned, OK was the east coast version of that for me (as well as L.O.N.S. Time album cuz they were pretty much all battling each other which made for a powerful album …STILL SLEPT ON!!!)

Prince Poetry & Pharoahe Monch have gone on to do solo schitts since then (Monch more so than Po) & continue to deliver the goods.

It is only right to showcase one of the most slept on underrated groups of our time.
