I’m coming clean with you guys. I used to do a new compilation theme every month, but I’ve gotten sucked into the Rendezvous and Innervisions volume vacuums that I’ve yet to post anything new or innovative mix wise.  After listening to all the tracks the staff contributed to Braille, and the recent GRIMEY mix we did, the feedback on the musical diversity was great. So I thought, alright Mai, time for a new joint. The word electric has been dancing around in my head lately so Electric Relaxation came to mind (Noah promptly told me the name was unoriginal and lame).  After agreeing with him, we arrived at ElectriCITY and he delivered the art.

What’s good Blind I Faithful? It’s your girl Maiya and your boy NO coming to you with our first joint compilation…GRIMEY! We’ve talked about doing one for ages and finally made it happen. You’d think between our typical comps, it might be pretty eclectic or soulful. THINK AGAIN! Most men assume the ladies have to act/look rough to appreciate some old La the Darkman or N.W.A. (a stereotype I proudly defy).   So, NO and I got our hands dirty in the crates to deliver a gritty, grimy, hardcore mix unlike anything you’ll see on the other blogs.

We literally birthed the idea yesterday morning and completed it in an hour last night. Beginning with my Raekwon “Penitentiary” (The new Rae is ill BTW) we tag teamed track for track throughout the entire thing. Between Gravediggaz, Organized Konfusion and O.C., we got something in store for rap fans that frequent Blind I.

Hey! Once again, it’s that time for my monthly compilation. After we lost Michael Jackson, I pulled out a lot of old soul music to stroll down memory lane a bit.   I’m an 80′s baby but this music was consistently BLARING throughout the house when I was a kid. It feels like home when I listen. I’ve also been feeling inspired by the summertime and the inner-city beauty in my Harlem backyard. You will recognize some of these because  the classics always get sampled, but I picked some low-key ones too. I definitely spent more time putting this together than I normally do so let me know if the music moves you the way it moves me. XO

Hello Blind I. Me again. Before life became ultra busy, I used to write lots of poems. I have books full. To me, these mixes are kind of like musical poems. They’re a glimpse into my head. This edition is full of drums, drums and more DRUMS (Chocolate Star) and SYNTHESIZERS (Dam Funk). Both equally rendezvous-like if you tap your imagination. Round of applause to NO for the artwork. He and $ are amazing at what they do. Enough rambling.

Today is a wonderful day for me to post Dream Suite Vol.2. Why, you might ask? Not only is it my 25^th birthday, but it is also my compilation anniversary with Blind I. A year ago, I tried my hand at Good Morning, and now it is a regular thing for me each month (and I heart it). To add to the jubilation, Obama is going to be our president in exactly a week. All is well in my world. I hope you enjoy the mix. It’s a bit more lively than the last volume but still very mellow. That’s my staple right?
