Well hello! It’s been a minute since, right?  The Blind I staff used to crank out compilations so quickly, but I find that the quality of the compilations is so much more thorough when we spend time really playing the music to see what works together. It’s spring! My spirits are super high and ideas and opportunities are blossoming. I’m feeling good and hopefully you are too!  There’s no formula or theme to this one; just songs that feel good. Stones Throw just released the official video for M.E.D. feat. Hodgy Beats song entitled Outta Control. A Great collabo with Madlib on the beat. A gem for sure not to be missed.  Peep more from Hodgy Beats on the Odd Future Vol. 2 tape.

I was hoping the cover would be complete in time for me to post this on Dilla’s birthday. But, I’m glad that we waited a little bit because it allowed me listen to the songs a few more times, and make some last-minute tweaks.  I’ve decided to theme my Rendezvous mixes this year in order to challenge myself and take them to the next level. It’s February, so doing a tribute to one of my favorite producers and a true visionary was the first thing that came to mind.  Most people who visit Blind I are avid collectors of Dilla’s material, so there are probably no songs that we’ve left out over the years (see: No’s Dilla Vol. 1 and 2). So instead, I pulled together some of my favorites; group and solo material, original samples and music from unrelated artists that give me similarly warm vibes. I hope you enjoy. Easily one of my favorite albums from 2011, hasn’t left the CD changer since I copped up. Produced by the one and only Madlib, video directed by aaronisnotcool. Spottted at Okayplayer.

The most played song on my iTunes (I think I’m at 98 plays now…) gets visual treatment. If you haven’t already, cop up on these two artists’ joint EP here and wait impatiently for the full length project to drop hopefully sooner than later.

On Thursday, June 2nd, 2011, Peek Gallery in association with Noise Pop proudly presents an exclusive photo gallery IF IT FITS IN THE BACKPACK…10 Years On the Road with MOCHILLA. Between B+ and Coleman, Mochilla’s co-founders, the two have photographed some of music’s biggest icons, including Eminem, Lauryn Hill, Black Eyed Peas, DJ Shadow, MF Doom, Dilated Peoples, Blackalicious, David Axelrod, Mulatu Astatke, J.Dilla, EPMD, Snoop Dogg, Black Star (Mos Def & Talib Kweli), Damian Marley, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Madlib, Jay Electronica, and many others. Outside of their photography work, Mochilla developed into a full service production company, producing 3 groundbreaking music films which include KEEPINTIME, BRASILINTIME, and TIMELESS, all exploring the connection between Jazz/Soul/Funk/Brasilian music and the latter generation of DJs and producers who were so influenced by the previous generation’s music and aesthetic. Recent video projects include Eric Coleman’s video work w/ Jay Electronica in South Africa; B+’s travels w/ Nas & Damian Marley in Jamaica; an interview with the legendary Jose Maria “Curro” Fuentes (producer of some of Colombia’s most important musicians and orchestras on his own Discos Curro imprint); and their combined work on Banksy’s film, “Exit Through The Gift Shop.”

The June 2nd, 2011 grand opening of IF IT FITS IN THE BACKPACK…10 Years On the Road with MOCHILLA will feature work made under the Mochilla aegis over the last 10 years, showcasing their cultural imprint on music from all over the world and their brilliant execution as photographers and videographers.

So this was an idea I had back in 2007. $ even made me a cover & everything & I never put it out. I decided to pull from that & make this to give y’all for this months edition of NKD, thus we going back in time, to a place where I was coming up as a MC I bumped the schitt outta everything on this edition. Broken tape decks & everythang! This past Saturday I was up @ my DJ W1shOne’s Audio Playground all day working on a mix of this for y’all but was not able to complete it the way I wanted to within such a short time, thus, expect a mix with songs that are not on this to be intertwined with some of these songs & more a lil down the road this year. Ill drop it randomly so stay TUNEd for that. Until then, go inside my mind/ears & enjoy some NOstalgia.
