Hot Chip – Made In The Dark

The first time I heard a Hot Chip song it was in the form of their 2004 single, “Playboy”. The eerie vocals, the melodic synth laden beat and the hard to understand hook captured my attention. I probably heard the song on a late night while watching MTV2, but thats not important. Im just glad that I heard the song in the first place regardless of how.

It’s hard to describe Hot Chip’s sound. They are definitely an electronic group, but they are also influenced by rock, r&b and hip hop. The influence of the latter can be seen on Made In The Dark’s single “Shake A Fist” which features stuttering drums that sound like they were programmed by Timbaland. If you are a fan of good music and have not heard a Hot Chip album, lend me your ear and I highly doubt that you will be disappointed.
