LLOYD – PUSHA (PRODUCED BY THE RUNNERS)

Lloyd-Pic-3-5-08-fb_1209147952Who’da though that Lloyd would be the only artist to make it out unscathed from Murder Inc? Me, that’s who, cause Ja Rule and Ashanti sucked ass! Anyways, I fuck with Lloyd, no pause necessary, and this is his new joint entitled “Pusha” that’s produced by The Runners. Partake!

CHICAGO | WALE & COLIN MUNROE LIVE 4.22.09

waleflyerWale’s ‘Attention Deficit’ Tour w/ UCB, Colin Munroe
Featuring
: Mic Terror, Bin Laden Blowin’ Up, Dave Coresh, Vic Lloyd, Chaise Marcel, 1993

Wednesday April 22nd, 2009 @ Abbey Pub  3240 W. Grace, Chicago, IL

17+, $12 presale (www.abbeypub.com), $15 door

In an era when critics and rappers themselves jump to declare the death of Hip-Hop, Wale Folarin has been breathing new life into the genre through dazzling wordplay, a fresh sound steeped in DC?s legendary go-go scene, and boundless on-stage energy. 2006 saw Wale conquer DC, Maryland and Virginia with a slew of original radio hits and electrifying shows that solidified his buzz in the Mid-Atlantic. 2008 was even brighter, with Wale garnering press in The Fader, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, XXL, VIBE, Complex, Entertainment Weekly, The Washington Post, The Source, HipHopGame.com, AllHipHop.com, a piece on MTV and an URB cover, all without a major label deal. With heavy radio rotation in DC, Maryland and Virginia, along with mixshow spins on both coasts, Wale has sold out shows in LA, New York, San Francisco, Philly and Atlanta. Wale has also taken the European music festival circuit by storm, touring with world-famous DJ and superproducer Mark Ronson (Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen). Ronson was so impressed with Wale, he ended up signing Wale to a production deal with his boutique label, Allido Records. With well over 2 million plays on MySpace, Wale is an organic Hip-Hop and lifestyle phenomenon, and the release of his third and most widely-distributed mixtape, 100 MILES AND RUNNING (30,000+ downloads since July), has taken his global buzz to new heights. *BONUS – Video footage of Wale & Bun B in ATL after the jump!

NEW SCHITT (DOWNLOADS AND SCHITT)

We know it’s tempting to take and not ask any questions, but think about this. If a crackhead can pay for crack, why can’t you pay for proverbial crack? We’re gonna hit you with consistent shit, but please, don’t come here and expect to get the new Lil Boosie album or any shit like that. That’s just not our steez. But on the flipside, it would be silly for us to fuck around on the artists we love and post their entire jawns for free too. So we’ll hit you with crack, archival shit, new singles, fresh finds and the like, but don’t expect full joints like that. It’s just not sensible. Now the messageboard and the email lists….well, that’s a different story. You just gotta gain access to those, and who KNOWS what you’ll get ;-) But on to the dope shit after the jump…

Andre 3000 Is The King Of Hip-Hop. Here’s Why.

Lowkey. Consistent. Sells millions of records. Grammy awards. And sicker on the mic than anyone else ever. Yes, I said EVER. Walk with me…

As quoted from Wikipedia:
“OutKast is one of the most successful hip-hop groups of all time, having sold over 20 million copies of its eight releases: six studio albums, a greatest hits release, and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, a double album containing a solo album from each member of the duo. Speakerboxxx/The Love Below is one of only four hip-hop albums to be certified diamond in the US for shipping over 10 million units. Despite the group’s commercial success, it has maintained an experimental approach in its music and is widely praised for its originality and artistic content.”

Six Grammy Awards:
2002 Best Rap Performance By a Duo or Group “Ms. Jackson”
2002 Best Rap Album Stankonia
2003 Best Rap Performance By a Duo or Group “The Whole World”
2004 Album of the Year Speakerboxxx/The Love Below
2004 Best Urban/Alternative Performance “Hey Ya!”
2004 Best Rap Album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below

But there’s more.

Besides the Geto Boys and UGK, Outkast was the first MAJOR group to emerge out of the south and actually get love in places like New York. This was due largely in part to their subject matter, which mixed the laid back style of the south with often politically-charged verses from both Dre and Big Boi. Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, their first album, was dope enough for them to get acclaim from the then-influential media The Source to be the best new group of 1995. Aquemini, their second release, got 5 mics and was deemed an instant classic.

So let’s see, that’s already put them in the same category as these greats:
Run-D.M.C. – Run DMC (1984)
LL Cool J – Radio (1985)
Beastie Boys – Licensed To Ill (1986)
Run-D.M.C. – Raising Hell (1986)
Boogie Down Productions – Criminal Minded (1987)
Eric B. & Rakim – Paid In Full (1987)
Big Daddy Kane – Long Live The Kane (1988)
Boogie Down Productions – By All Means Necessary (1988)
EPMD – Strictly Business (1988)
Jungle Brothers – Straight Out the Jungle (1988)
N.W.A – Straight Outta Compton (1988)
Public Enemy- It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back(1988
Slick Rick – The Great Adventures of Slick Rick (1988)
Ultramagnetic Mc’s – Critical Beatdown (1988)
The D.O.C. – No One Can Do It Better (1989)
A Tribe Called Quest – People’s Instinctive Travels and Paths of Rhythm (1990)
Brand Nubian – One for All (1990)
Eric B. & Rakim – Let the Rhythm Hit ‘Em (1990)
Geto Boys – Grip it on That Other Level (1990)
Ice Cube – Amerikkka’s Most Wanted (1990)
Main Source – Breaking Atoms (1990)
A Tribe Called Quest – The Low End Theory (1991)
De La Soul – De La Soul Is Dead (1991)
Ice Cube – Death Certificate (1991)
Dr Dre – The Chronic (1992)
Snoop Dogg – Doggystyle (1993)
Wu-Tang Clan – Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) (1993)
Nas – Illmatic (1994)
The Notorious B.I.G. – Ready To Die (1994)
Scarface – The Diary (1994)
Mobb Deep – The Infamous… (1995)
Raekwon – Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… (1995)
2Pac – Me Against The World (1995)
The Fugees – The Score (1996)
Jay-Z – Reasonable Doubt (1996)
2Pac – All Eyez On Me (1996)
The Notorious B.I.G. – Life After Death (1997)
Dr Dre – 2001 (1999)
Nas – Stillmatic (2001)
Jay-Z – The Blueprint (2001)
Scarface – The Fix (2002)

On ATLiens, they were able to produce some of their own tracks, and that opened up the door for the freshness we here from them now. With Both Dre and Big Boi able to actually make beats and structure the songs as they saw fit, it was clear to alot of people after listening to ATLiens that they were something really special.

Thinks about all the producers, emcees, etc. that have come after Outkast and used a bit of their style in some sense. See any connections between the ATLiens and the Neptunes? J Dilla? I digress.

No disrespect to Big Boi, but Andre 3000 has simply catapulted his lyrics to a higher plateau by somehow NOT RHYMING. Crazy right? Ingenious. The Love Below was really the reason that their last album sold as much as it did, even though so many people were pissed that Dre barely dropped a 16 on it. It was the musical integrity that made it hot. Now he’s been dropping verses in the most unlikeliest of places — remixes to Walk It Out? Lloyd Remixes? — somehow he makes it 10x cracker than any of those songs were by themseves.

Now I KNOW people are like WHAT? Andre 3000? Greatest MC? What about Jay-Z? Lil Wayne? (lmfao) Lupe Fiasco even? Nas? The first three are very similar because they use the same style in varying degrees. Jay-Z can be hailed as the first to use what I call the run-on sentence flow. It’s basically using the last word of a bar to connect to the following bar in a different way. Follow me…

Jay-Z:
“You can’t rain dance on his picnic
No Haitian voodoo, no headless chickens can dead his sickness (whoo)
No Ouija board, you can’t see me dog, nigga you +CB4+
This ain’t +Chris Rock+ bitch, it’s the ROC bitch
And I’m the +franchise+ like a Houston Rocket
Nawimean (Yao Ming)…”

CB4 – Chris Rock – The Roc – Franchise (Steve Francis) – Houston Rockets – Yao Ming

It’s all quite simple really.

Now Lil Wayne (lmfao):
“I come through the lane like dargent
Learn from me niggaz is lame they call charging
I have no brain I’m retarded
We are not the same I’ma Martian
You can’t be my chain I’m your target
I’m from the jungle where the snakes is all poison
I am magnificent like Marcus
You might wanna fall back like August
Or late september whatever you call it
I hit niggaz in the head like Vonage
I am talking to no particular audience
But understand I’m the guardian
And understand there won’t be no guardin him
You will just get played like an accordion
I don’t give a damn if she’s bossy
I keep pussy running like a faucet
She better catch like she Steve Largent
Because I’m “What’s up” like “Martin”

Realistically, I don’t see how Wayne comes into this category besides the fact that he has a shitload of swagger to his verses. But his wordplay is simple. “You might wanna fall back like August, or late September whatever you call it”??
Fall back Wayne, Fall back.

Ok, so Lupe:
“Welcome all of y’all to my dark recesses
This is where I keep the bars like bathtub edges
My Ivories and my Doves my Levers and my Zests
It takes half of your bubble bath to match the freshness
The belly of the beast you know I’m from it
I wrap it in a towel here go my pal in the stomach
And I be on my green like Irish Spring and I coast
Fudge wit it and get a mouth full of soap”

Now I personally love Lupe, he’s a smart listeners’ best friend. But alot of his stuff goes over people’s heads. You kinda have to know something about the inner workings of subcultures to get his lyrics. In that sense he’s kinda the opposite of Lil’ Wayne. Definitely the future of where this flow can go though. Wish he had a more general subject matter though.

And last but definitely not least, Andre 3000:
“Aint a Hood Nigga but a Nigga from the hood,
See momma stayed on me so I turned out pretty good,
but if u wanna try, sucka now yeah we can do it
(ha ha) sleep… tynenol PM if I pull it
Sh sh sheep, Count em for the rest of his life,
yea yea ur partna got away but now he’s vegetable-like
So I sent his mom and dad a whole case of V8
He could die any second, how much long its gone take
Gone get it over with
Oh what if
u were in my loafers then
u might be the dope and I would flush it down the toliet
like the boys in blue, when they come thru wit the boots
and they kickin’ down the door
and they don’t care who they shoot
but we do care who they shoot
so we do what we must do
so we act like we run track
and we run straight to the back
but they comin’ from the back
so we run back to the front
they say get down on ur knees
we say what the fuck u want
they want cheese
they want bread
they want dough
they want mo
than I wanna give’em but if I keep talkin’ they wont know
that my cousin in the back
and we call him roto-rooter slash plumber, cash runna and he fire on the computer
Log-Out..”

Consistent throughout with the content. Something everyone can relate to. Smart. Incorporates his flow with the wordplay (i.e. ha-ha sleep, tylenol pm if i pull it, sh-sh-sheep, count em for the rest of your life…)

If this doesn’t convince you, I’ve posted 6 Of The Newest joints I could find that feature Dre 3000 (+ Kelis’ Millionaire cause that shit is hot!) There’s been an Outkast Gangsta Grillz mixtape in the works since October of ’06, so let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that this recent burst of verses from Dre snowballs into a mixtape or album by the dude. Enjoy!
