I’ve been working on this for a LOOOONG time and I finally completed another masterpiece. For those not in the know, The Neptunes are a record production duo consisting of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, who are credited with contributing the sound for some successful Hip hop, R&B and Pop artists in the late-90s and 2000s. The Neptunes’ sound is a distinctive brand of off-kilter, stripped-down electronic funk. Along with Timbaland and Dr. Dre they were the driving force behind many of the musical characteristics of late-90s/2000s hip-hop, helping to re-introduce sci-fi style sounds into the hip-hop mainstream, along with sounds from Middle Eastern and Asian music including percussion and woodwind.

I decided a few months back to make a collection of my favorite rare, b-side, and unreleased Neptunes production, from 1999 to 2009, in order to create a dedication to over 10 years of next-level music that still stands the test of time. I swear listening to these tracks puts you in a state of mind where everything’s better around you. Decemvir, which is the latin term for “ten“, is used to describe this decade of incredible works from the stellar production duo. DJ EKO – ELECTRO YUM TURBO!

Blind I faithful & good friend DJ EKO or “ekogirl” has blessed us all with a new mix perfect for the weather that is warming up too damn soon (is it just me or does it feel like summer is already here?)! For those unaware, DJ Eko is a staple in our culture. She has had a successful show on KZSC Santa Cruz for over 12 years (in that time, became the stations Hip Hop Director), wrote reviews for Urb Magazine, worked with record label, Nu Gruv Alliance (working with Peanut Butter Wolf, StonesThrow, Quannum, Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, J5 & Zion I) & even had a show on KCSB while she was transplanted in L.A. for a quick minute. Today you can still tune in to KZSC when u are in the bay to peep her wonderful show or catch her rockin the 1′s & 2′s LIVE @ all the various hot spots!

All Ova The News…

1.  Karrine “Superhead” Steffans has just landed a movie deal. It appears that her first book Confessions Of A Video Vixen is going to be made into a feature film. And actress Elise Neal is being looked at to play the lead role in the movie.  But Elise told King magazine that she’d only take the role if Superhead were 100% behind her. She explained, “I just want it to be something she has a lot of control over… I would do it if it came together the right way.”  Could be fun as they both look just like each other.

2.  Da Brat got arrested at Jermaine Dupri’s Studio 42.  Apparently, she got into an argument with the bartender about her tab, it got escalated, and Da Brat broke a bottle over her head.  Check her booking info 

3. Jacob The Jeweler is headed to the big house.  He pleaded guilty Wednesday to falsifying records and giving false statements to investigators looking into a multistate drug ring. Terms of the plea deal call for Jacob Arabov of New York to serve up to 46 months in prison and pay a $2 million penalty, U.S. Attorney Stephen J. Murphy said in a news release. No sentencing date was immediately set by U.S. District Judge Avern Cohn.  In return for the guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to drop money laundering charges against the man known in the hip-hop world as “Jacob the Jeweler,” said Arabov’s attorney, Benjamin Brafman.  “I realize I have made a terrible mistake and I accept the consequences of my actions,” Arabov said in a news release issued through Brafman.

4. Kelis got dropped from Jive. Looks like Jive Records is finished with R&B singer Kelis. The record label has officially dropped the Milkshake artist from it’s label.
Here’s what Kelis manager, Jeff Rabhan had to say about being dropped:

It was a case of being in the ever-shrinking world of the record industry and finding herself on a label she wasn’t signed to and without a champion. We’re not opposed to another major label deal, but it would have to be non-traditional … [Kelis] is a different kind of artist — very image and style-driven. It’s either something you get or you don’t.

Obviously most people don’t get her, cause she ain’t been able to sell records for a hot minute.. and her last one well..  not so much..
