DJ HAYLOW – TURN IT UP! [J DILLA TRIBUTE]

The D2S homie DJ Haylow had done this tribute mix back in ‘08 in honor of the G.O.A.T. J Dilla. I know there have been a slue of Dilla tribute mixes out there, but this one is mos def one of the better ones! Haylow does the G.O.A.T. justice & is a nice lil must have for any Dilla aficionado out there.

A MAGICAL MUSICAL NIGHT [A SUITE FOR MA DUKES]

Hours ago an audience was fortunate to hear the sounds of the man we all know and love, J Dilla through an orchestra composed under the direction of Miguel Atwood Ferguson.As much as I wanted to,  I wasn’t able to fly down to L.A. for this one. However Our good friend Dert was not only in attendance, but sitting front row to witness what I knew would be a night to talk about for years to come. Lucky for us, He was able to record the last memorable moments of the performance. The rest is through his eyes & words.

This is video I took at the Timeless: Suite For Ma Dukes concert. A 40-piece orchestra interpreting Jay-Dee’s wonderful work from the hits to the obscure. Arrangements by Miguel Atwood Ferguson. There were numerous cameos throughout the night but this video features Posdnous of the great De La Soul and Talib Kweli performing Stakes Is High and Illa J doing adlibs over Fall in Love. Karriem Riggins was on the drums for the 2nd half of the show. I was trying to be respectful by not taking video but at this point everyone in the place took out cameras and flashes were going off. Since I was in the front row, I might as well share a little bit with y’all. When the full concert comes out on DVD (since there was a film crew) it’s definitely a must-have for Dilla fans and music lovers alike.-Dert

DILLA INTERVIEW

2 years ago today James Yancey better known to the world as Jay Dee (& later J Dilla) left us due to the disease that is Lupus. His legacy is carried on thru those who worked very closely with him and those who ere influenced by the man as well. Today is not a day of mourning, but, a day of celebration, as we celebrate the life of Jay Dee & all that he brought to the table forever changing the way music is executed.

We thank you & love you Jay Dee!!

Still hard to believe that 2 years ago the greatest of all time left us to suffer no more.

Forever has my life changed because of this man & I will continue to carry on his legacy in any shape or form!

Respect to Ma Dukes, Illa J, Soulplay, Dave NY, House Shoes & of course J Rocc for another installment of the man we know and love.
