INTERVIEW: FLYING LOTUS (@FLYINGLOTUS) AT THE NORTH COAST MUSIC FESTIVAL

The Goodie Bag caught up with the producer-extraordinaire Flying Lotus to chop it up about his North Coast Music Festival experience this past weekend and grab a little information about his Pattern + Grid World project coming up. I was on the stage for this performance and I’ll admit I didn’t know what to expect from his set but I was thoroughly entertained. So were the thousands of people who waited over 4 hours JUST to see him rock. Crazy!

BLIND I ARTIST SPOTLIGHT-BILAL

In the middle of auditioning for back up singers in Manhattan, Bilal Oliver was kind enough to sit down with Blind I to discuss re-emerging from a musical hiatus, the aftermath of Love for Sale leaking and releasing his highly-anticipated album, Airtight’s Revenge (out Sept. 14 via Plug Research). GOAPELE DISCUSSES MILK & HONEY

With all of this new music going around, I’m glad Goapele’s got a new album Milk & Honey and a new look to go with it. I would love to go to a show with her Dwele and Amel Larrieux.  My girl Goapele has been puttin’ it down for a while. If you’re in the Bay Area, and you’ve caught one of her shows,  then you know what I’m talking about.   Some of the credits on the new album are looking nice too.  Songs to look forward to are “The Drumma Boy”  (Young Jeezy, TI, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane) produced track “Right Here,” the Bobby Ozuna (Raphael Saadiq, D’Angelo, Anthony Hamilton) produced track “Tears on my Pillow” and the title track “Milk & Honey” produced by Bedrock (B-Legit, Clyde Carson, Jacka). Heat and fire up in there so should be tight. I CAN’T WAIT!

The good people over at Greedmont Park did a lengthy interview with Mr. Bilal Oliver about his upcoming album (which we posted snippets of), Airtight’s Revenge. Since Bilal was off the grid for a little while this update is necessary. In this three-part discussion, he touches on everything from Love for Sale leaking, his experiences with artists like Dilla,  to the new record fans are anxiously waiting on.

NPR INTERVIEW: LAURYN HILL SPEAKS

It was hard for me to not react dramatically when I began reading this. As a writer, sometimes I fear that the internet has grown into such a dominant force, that it will cause these kinds of stories to become obsolete. But, like a breath of fresh air, Zoe Chace interviewed people Lauryn Hill has worked with for context and she also got Ms. Hill to talk.
