LUKE VIBERT – BONAFIDE BEATS
Luke muthafunkin’ Vibert! The doode who made one of my favorite tracks that I ever put on a NKD…

Well the good folks over @ Bonafide Magazine have been putting out a series entitled Bonafied Beats, and for Vol.6 they called on the talents of Luke Vibert. The schitt is like hoppin in a DeLorean of 1.21 gigawatts to late 98/early 99. In Bonafide’s words…
Fresh from carbonite, the next mix in the Bonafide Beats series is certified vintage, having been in storage since Prince was partying in 1999. Washing up on the silicon shores of Luke Vibert’s hard drive some ten or more years since it was made, this mix captures the vibrancy of underground hip-hop on the cusp of the new millennium. With the ‘golden-era’ fast disappearing in the rear-view mirror, here we see one-time independent outfits such as Company Flow and Slum Village take a breath and prepare to dive deeper, making way for Fiddy and co. to lurch in and plunder all that glamour and gold offered up to the new millennium ‘gangster’ rappers.

I really outdid myself with this one. This…..right here….is my…..most fluid, themed, consistent BISG compilation yet! August’s edition of Blind I Says GO! is giving love to the joints you love but forget to revisit….the Yin to the typical Yang of selections that jump out at us on out favorite records….yes that’s right, the INTERLUDE! When I came up with this concept I had a few special ones in mind that I’d always loved, but I had no idea I’d be able to pick 40 tracks that combined into an hour-long mindgasm of sonic delicacy. You like my wordplay I know you do. All the greats are here along for the ride too — 112, Little Brother, Hi-Tek, Usher, Talib Kweli, Sa-Ra, Brand New Funk, Justin Timberlake, Sonnymoon, I, CED, Common, Bilal, The Neptunes, N.E.R.D., Group Home, Outkast, SWV, Dwele, Drake, Missy Elliott, Kelis, Timbaland & Magoo, John Legend, Mayer Hawthorne, Yesterday’s New Quintet, Erykah Badu, Diddy, B.I.G., Madlib, Jay-Z, Janelle Monaé, Jake One, Dilla, Gang Starr, Dimlite, Dert, Constrobuz, Beat Maker Beat, Sol+10….I mean C’MON SON! You already know what you need to do.

THE CARLTON – DJ STYLUS
I live in the land of nerds Silicon Valley, CA! I would consider myself a nerd!!. Since NERDS are the new black and the 90s are back, I’m dropping this cool lil gem for the KING OF NERDS. A mix dedicated to CARLTON mixed by Dj STYLUS.
“The Carlton” is an ode to the King of All ’90s Sitcom Nerds, Carlton Banks, and the sounds that he would likely be grooving to if were still around in 2010.
This is a fresh lil mix with a lil bit of everyone from Stevie Wonder to J Davey to Hall & Oats. All the songs have that CARLTON feel to it to definitely get you Bouncing…peep the vid I found to go with it after the jump SUPER CLASSIC.

A BLOG CALLED FRESH-UNTITLED MIXTAPE
I’m kind of weird about my tunes. Whenever I see a mix is in a single Mp3, normally I don’t bother fooling with it. Why? I’m lazy and I don’t want to skip through to find the parts I like (kinda like a cassette tape, no?). But, A Blog Called Fresh compiled it, and I spotted it over at Dirtywork so I downloaded it. And I played the entire thing. So now I’ll return the favor.
Pop the hood for tracklist. We got some bossanova, funk, old school, hip-hop and the like. Just trust my judgment.
R.I.P. GURU

This morning, many of us woke up to the sad news that Guru, (born Keith Elam) had lost his battle with cancer. Once we heard he’d been hospitalized and concerns surrounding his well being began to circulate, we hoped he’d persevere. While this is a major loss, and a void has been created, let’s celebrate and reflect on his musical contributions.
He leaves behind a deep legacy: hard-hitting rhymes and introspective anecdotes in his signature raspy tone. Guru and DJ Premier conjured up classics together that will remain timeless and relevant. The Roxbury native was a pioneer of sorts, successfully blending and introducing hip hop and jazz fans to one another through his Jazzmatazz projects. To date, Moment of Truth is one of my favorite albums. Pull out some Gang Starr today and acknowledge his amazing body of work. He’s also expressed the importance of the non-profit for children, Each One Counts, so check out the organization. Pop the hood for some classic videos.

MAIYA PRESENTS…ORGANIZED CONFUSION
Hi Everyone. What can I say–it’s been quite a month. For starters, Blind I celebrated our first SXSW showcase (Check out the pictures here) and it was incredible to be in the presence of musical greatness. It has been a whirlwind for me personally these past few weeks, dealing with moments of jubilation and euphoria to death, grief and setbacks. Music has been my window seat. This compilation was due Monday but I needed to gather my thoughts and get the sound right. It starts out mellow and soothing and ends a bit more chaotic–just how it’s sounded in my head. I hope you relate somehow. Tracks/link next door.
