NO KNOWS DOPE::APRIL 2009

Whattup Blind I faithful! I truly apologize for not droppin this on the 15th (the day NKD’s are scheduled to drop) but the truth of the matter is that (in the words of my momz) ‘I am burning the candle @ both ends’ by doing ’4 much’ these daze! But ya know what I say… I’ll rest when I’m dead. So with that being said, let’s get to it! I had 5 songs that I had previously selected a month ago for this months edition. The rest was compiled all damn day today. There were songs I had in mind for this comp but needed a lil help in obtaining so with that I say a SPECIAL JEDI THANK YOU TO: J Peepz, Platurn, Pickster,  Dandiggity, G-Wrex & Goldenchyld. BLIND I ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: FRANCIS AND THE LIGHTS

The music world is gradually starting to fixate on Francis and the Lights. Though Francis Farewell Starlite’s precise vocals and electric sound is undeniable, there is still an element of mystery looming around him like a force field. Clad in a black ensemble and his signature coif, Francis sat quietly backstage at Manhattan’s Santos Party House. His piercing eyes panned across the room as he reflected on the seemingly accelerated journey of his group. Befitting to the notion that entertainers come alive when they perform, Francis  radiated as he glided across the stage with agility. In that moment, audience members were transformed into magnets. Blind I was fortunate enough to catch up with him before the raucous crowd indulged in their energetic set.

Coming up this Saturday Mister Saturday Night got a funky, jerky, percussive mix of early Peter Gabriel and Prince in the form of the theatrical and wildly entertaining Francis and the Lights playing upstairs in the main room. Be sure to check out the video link after the jump to see main man Francis in mesmerizing form.

Downstairs they will have a very special DJ performance from the hugely talented Four Tet aka Kieran Hebden, a man whose music and DJ sets
eschews techno, jazz, folk and pretty much everything in between.

Happy Friday! I told shorty, I said “Look shorty. Just download the Blind I Says GO! Double CD off Blind I and you’ll get all the education you need this year”. Truer shit has never been spoken. Yes, I was late on March’s BISG due to a restructuring of our compilation-posting schedule, but don’t worry, I made it up to you guys big time. And YES, I was supposed to post up April’s BISG on Wednesday but I was too busy plotting world domination. Luckily on Thursday I got around to compiling it and Voila! Two BISGs for everybody in one day, one post. March’s BISG hold a bunch of heat from a hip-hop standpoint, with new joints from Diamond District, Jadakiss, Fam-Lay aka Shark City Click, Cudi, Wale, Justin Timberlake, and others. Guaranteed to be something you can bump in the whip if you’re headed out tonight. Which leads me to April….

BISG April goes hard. Lately I’ve been listening to a bunch of new artists as well as artists that are just new to me, and April was compiled as a shrine to the new ill shit. New One Chance shit starts it off, and that pretty much sets the tone as most of the joints on this BISG are from artists like Telepopmusik, Thievery Corporation, Metronomy, Justice, Prince, Ge-Ology and the like. Definitely for a more keen listener, but packing much heat like the summer do. I know you’re gonna love it cause I’m still playing all the joints on the tracklisting nonstop. All in all this double-drop should more than hold you down until the May installment of BISG, which is SURE to be ridiculous. Track listings after the jump my friends!

FRANCIS AND THE LIGHTS

Francis and the Lights is like a freakin’ dream come true. Although the name sounds like a title of a Tim Burton film (and the lead singer of the band, Francis Farewell Starlite looks like a character from one), the music is real, and by real I mean real DOPE. I’ve been trying to pin a similar sound on it and the best description I can give is a 21st century Prince/Radiohead mashup. And trust me, that description doesn’t do the music justice. If you listen to the detail of the songs and the instrumentation you begin to really see how spectacular Francis and the Lights really are.
