VIDEO: ROC RAIDA TRIBUTE

FULL SCREEN
The Sounds of VTech / Roc Raida Tribute Final

It’s been almost over a year already and we still miss him…..

The Beat Junkies, with the support of VTech, threw a tribute to our dear friend, the late great Grandmaster Roc Raida of the X-Ecutioners this past September. The actual event was exactly a year after the date he was buried: Sept 24th, 2009. We were able to have some members of the X-Ecutioners participate in the event, as well as having Roc Raida’s family in the house. His daughter DJ NyRaida performed a set in tribute to her father.

FAT BEATS IN-STORE PERFORMANCE SCHEDULES [LA]

So you already know the deal & how we feel about the whole departure of the Fat Beats stores. Sucks. But not really cuz they still are going to be doing big thangs in various formats, so I guess it’s cool & growth & all that other jazz. Anyways, the NYC farewell jump off was filled to the brim of dope artists who had made Fat Beat NYC their home so it is only fitting that they mirror the same for the LA farewell & as you can see to the right (click pic to enlarge), that they are NOT playin! I mean DAMN!!! I know the NBA will be playing the All Star game @ Staples this season but this schitt right here my ninja? This is LA’s All Star Hip Hop fest for the ages! You got OG spitters from LA’s underground elite from Erule to Volume 10,  to LA’s G’d up from the chucks up spitters MC Eiht to Kurupt, a face melt of beats from LA producers Dibiase to Exile as well as a performace from the Gawdz of LA style Freestyle Fellowship! That aint even scratching the surface tho! Peep the line up for each day & plan accordingly. You’re welcome. Below is my favorite song from Erule  & still in my top 10 all time Hip Hop songs ever.

FAT BEATS IN-STORE PERFORMANCE SCHEDULES

Once we all got word that Fat Beats would be closing down nationally, there were definitely mixed emotions about the vinyl staple ending its run. However, Fat Beats has big plans to go out with a bang by hosting a series of in-store performances at its NY and Los Angeles Locations. See below for details:

(August 30, 2010 – Brooklyn, NY) After announcing the closing of their New York and Los Angeles locations, Fat Beats is excited to present a send-off worthy of their hip-hop legacy. A week-long series of in-store performances and music industry panels at both stores will allow the music community to not only learn about the history of Fat Beats and what the future of the music industry holds, but to also celebrate the legacy of one of the strongest music brands in the company of their favorite artists. These week-long in-stores are sure to go down in hip-hop and New York history. Everyone is welcome to come and all events are free.

Today marks the official start of the week-long in-stores for the New York location. This location will host artist perfomances every day this week from 4-9pm until it closes its doors for the final time on Saturday, September 4th, 2010. Additionally, both locations will be selling limited edition commemorative t-shirts, as well as discounted music and merchandise

FAT BEATS TO CLOSE NYC & L.A. STORES

To some of you this aint news. To me & the rest of the faithfuls, it is huge! Fat Beats is one of the only few record stores around where you can find your hip hop & other musical needs. Homies from J.Rocc to Shames Worthy to House Shoes have held jobs there. It has been a haven for all things hip hop & surrounding itself with the illest of the ills! Let’s face it… record stores have become obsolete due to them becoming desolate. FACT - No one buys schitt no more. FACT - Everyone downloads. FACT - & this is why there are no more record stores. I remember talking to the homies Tanya Morgan off the record about this very same issue. They wrote a song about it too… like to hear it? Here it goes…
