I’ve been working on this for a LOOOONG time and I finally completed another masterpiece. For those not in the know, The Neptunes are a record production duo consisting of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, who are credited with contributing the sound for some successful Hip hop, R&B and Pop artists in the late-90s and 2000s. The Neptunes’ sound is a distinctive brand of off-kilter, stripped-down electronic funk. Along with Timbaland and Dr. Dre they were the driving force behind many of the musical characteristics of late-90s/2000s hip-hop, helping to re-introduce sci-fi style sounds into the hip-hop mainstream, along with sounds from Middle Eastern and Asian music including percussion and woodwind.

I decided a few months back to make a collection of my favorite rare, b-side, and unreleased Neptunes production, from 1999 to 2009, in order to create a dedication to over 10 years of next-level music that still stands the test of time. I swear listening to these tracks puts you in a state of mind where everything’s better around you. Decemvir, which is the latin term for “ten“, is used to describe this decade of incredible works from the stellar production duo. Yes, I was late on March’s BISG due to a restructuring of our compilation-posting schedule, but don’t worry, I made it up to you guys big time. And YES, I was supposed to post up April’s BISG on Wednesday but I was too busy plotting world domination. Luckily on Thursday I got around to compiling it and Voila! Two BISGs for everybody in one day, one post. March’s BISG hold a bunch of heat from a hip-hop standpoint, with new joints from Diamond District, Jadakiss, Fam-Lay aka Shark City Click, Cudi, Wale, Justin Timberlake, and others. BISG April goes hard. Lately I’ve been listening to a bunch of new artists as well as artists that are just new to me, and April was compiled as a shrine to the new ill shit. New One Chance shit starts it off, and that pretty much sets the tone as most of the joints on this BISG are from artists like Telepopmusik, Thievery Corporation, Metronomy, Justice, Prince, Ge-Ology and the like. Definitely for a more keen listener, but packing much heat like the summer do. I know you’re gonna love it cause I’m still playing all the joints on the tracklisting nonstop. Before I get into this post I would like to introduce myself. Im JK and im the newest contributor here at Blind I. I used to have a blog called JBeMad and if your familiar with it, continue to expect similar things from me. For everyone else, expect things that are different from your standard blog fare. On with the show…

METHOD TO THE MADNESS: Philly + Virginia = Illmaticness

Certain things just go together. New York football teams playing in New Jersey, other things that don’t come to my mind, etc. Well, certain cities also go together. Philly and New York dislike each other when it comes to sporting events but the two cities came together musically to form the Rocafella dynasty. Detroit and L.A. hated each other before Isaiah Thomas needed saving and Magic Johnson peculiarly gained weight after being diagnosed with the HIV. Musically however, Detroit and L.A. formed Jaylib, Eminem and Dr.Dre’s gazillion dollar partnership and most recently, Black Milk and Bishop Lamont crafted a head nodder called Caltroit.

One partnership that is overlooked however is the one between Philly and Virginia. This combination created Philly’s Most Wanted’s “Get Down or Lay Down”, an album with great Neptunes beats and dull lyrics. But besides that, it created Star Trak. The Neptunes crew brought together Rosco P. Coldchain, a Philly rapper with an odd rhyme pattern and criminal background, Fam-Lay, a Virginian with a flow that leads one to believe that his blood pumps codeine, and the Clipse, a duo that is a personal favorite that formed a collective called The Re-Up Gang. Nevermind all this lead-in blah blah, these are artists that deserve more (enter anything) than they got. Enjoy the sounds.
