It’s been a minute, but now I’m back in it. Truthfully, I went away from the compilation game for selfish reasons. If you’ve browsed around Blind I in the past year or so, you’ll know that I do my artistic thing. The deeper I got into my craft, I found myself with less & less time to check out new artists. But your hunger was strong for a staple that we’ve been known for since 2006, and we weren’t about to let that just drop so quickly. So I decided to smack myself in the face a few hundred times, sift through some of the wack new developments in this hip-hop shit, some of the over-saturated others, and give you guys a cool crop of fresh records encompassed in my NEW compilation continuation – Vanguard. So from here on out, only shit I’m fucking with in the flesh will make this comp. If it’s short, you know why. If you got dope shit, keep sending it. You too may very well be a part of the Vanguard moment in music. For my inaugural piece, I’ve got features from legends DJ Premier, Nas, Common, and The Roots…..some new-age heavyweights like Black Milk, Thom Yorke, DOOM, Pac Div, Asher Roth, Freddie Gibbs and Big K.R.I.T….and dope newcomers like Casey Veggies, YP, Rockie Fresh, Chance the Rapper, D2G, Vic Spencer, Schoolboy Q, ASAP Rocky, L.E.P. NEW DILLA ALBUM TO COME OUT THIS SUMMER!

URB MAG just Twitted that a new J Dilla album will be released this summer on Pitchfork. I’m geeked!! Peep what they talkin bout…

Like Tupac, J Dilla’s prolific creative habits resulted in a slew of unreleased material left behind in the wake of his passing. According to Pitchfork, an album of some of these unreleased beats entitled Jay $tay Paid is scheduled for a June 2nd release on Nature Sounds Records. The album is executive produced by Dilla’s mother, Maureen Yancey aka Ma Dukes.

“It wasn’t rushed, and it wasn’t haphazard,” she says. “This album combines what he did in the beginning of his career, what he did in some of our early hospital stays, which was very deep, and some stuff pulled from old floppy disks & DATs. It’s mind blowing…this is like the missing links to Dilla’s legacy.”

Dilla’s idol, Pete Rock, is handling the mixing and arrangement of the album’s 28 tracks. The album mostly consists of instrumentals, however a handful of Dilla friendly collaborators such as Raekwon, DOOM, and Black Thought are contributing vocals to the project.

Yes, I was late on March’s BISG due to a restructuring of our compilation-posting schedule, but don’t worry, I made it up to you guys big time. And YES, I was supposed to post up April’s BISG on Wednesday but I was too busy plotting world domination. Luckily on Thursday I got around to compiling it and Voila! Two BISGs for everybody in one day, one post. March’s BISG hold a bunch of heat from a hip-hop standpoint, with new joints from Diamond District, Jadakiss, Fam-Lay aka Shark City Click, Cudi, Wale, Justin Timberlake, and others. Guaranteed to be something you can bump in the whip if you’re headed out tonight. Which leads me to April….

BISG April goes hard. Lately I’ve been listening to a bunch of new artists as well as artists that are just new to me, and April was compiled as a shrine to the new ill shit. New One Chance shit starts it off, and that pretty much sets the tone as most of the joints on this BISG are from artists like Telepopmusik, Thievery Corporation, Metronomy, Justice, Prince, Ge-Ology and the like. Definitely for a more keen listener, but packing much heat like the summer do. I know you’re gonna love it cause I’m still playing all the joints on the tracklisting nonstop. All in all this double-drop should more than hold you down until the May installment of BISG, which is SURE to be ridiculous. Track listings after the jump my friends!

SILENT JOHN::THE SILENT TREATMENT

Cali based producer extraordinaire Silent John has made tracks for cats from Supernatural to The Pharcyde & continues to produce for many other artists as well. San Jose transplant , now residing in Los Angeles, He has decided to finally release his 2007 project adequately titled, The Silent Treatment. The album is all produced by SJ & mixed by the DJ crew known as Jimi Handtrix (DJ’s Presto One,Duece Ace & Charlie Darker). The Silent Treatment features Legendary freestyle king Supernatural, Akil & Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, DOOM, Jern Eye of Lunar Heights & a slue of others (including yours truly).
