MAKESHIFT- THE SLEEPLESS BEAT TAPE

I try not to be a skeptic, but whenever I play something unfamiliar my expectations are usually pretty low.  I spotted this Makeshift mixtape over at Potholes and after I let it play, I did a double take at my screen.  It’s rare that I get this ooh-wee feeling  that leads to an eargasm (see: Sonnymoon). This kid has talent and I like the way his beats switch up. I could hear Ghostface, Jay Elect or MF Doom on a lot of these. Partake!

December 4th, 2009, San Jose once again will be host to The Changing Same Music and Arts Series at the Agenda Lounge This will be The Changing Same’s 2 year anniversary, which was launched in 2007 at San Francisco’s club Mighty. Co-founded by Ungrammar, The Changing Same’s headlining artists that night for the launch were Prince prodigies J DaVeY along with Platinum Pied Pipers. Since then, Ungrammar has stayed the course with the mission of what The Changing Same is all about – presenting emerging artists that are at the forefront in the future realm of Soul, Electronica, Latin and post Hip Hop sounds – or can we say new sh!t!

NEW DILLA ALBUM TO COME OUT THIS SUMMER!

URB MAG just Twitted that a new J Dilla album will be released this summer on Pitchfork. I’m geeked!! Peep what they talkin bout…

Like Tupac, J Dilla’s prolific creative habits resulted in a slew of unreleased material left behind in the wake of his passing. According to Pitchfork, an album of some of these unreleased beats entitled Jay $tay Paid is scheduled for a June 2nd release on Nature Sounds Records. The album is executive produced by Dilla’s mother, Maureen Yancey aka Ma Dukes.

“It wasn’t rushed, and it wasn’t haphazard,” she says. “This album combines what he did in the beginning of his career, what he did in some of our early hospital stays, which was very deep, and some stuff pulled from old floppy disks & DATs. It’s mind blowing…this is like the missing links to Dilla’s legacy.”

Dilla’s idol, Pete Rock, is handling the mixing and arrangement of the album’s 28 tracks. The album mostly consists of instrumentals, however a handful of Dilla friendly collaborators such as Raekwon, DOOM, and Black Thought are contributing vocals to the project.

Blind I Faithful! We acquire more and MORE of you each month, and we love sharing our compilations with you. There is so  much fun in it. My last few mixes have been smooth and soulful- reflective of my typical mood. But this past month has been loaded with crazy-making-moments and lots on my plate. So as a result, I spiced this one up a little bit. Its jumpier and more bombastic, but then there are pleasant lulls along the way with the slow-rolling joints.
