VIDEO: J. DILLA: STILL SHINING

I think it’s safe to say that J. Dilla has positively affected each and every one of the members of the Blind I staff in some major way. Each one of us probably has our own answer as to how he did exactly but the fact still remains that he did. I still remember where I was and what I was doing when I found out he passed and I’m still feel bummed every time one of his timeless tracks pops up on my shuffle. But I’m soon filled with gladness that this man ever existed in the first place. Happy Belated Birthday J Dilla. May your soul live on through the hearts and minds of any and everyone who has a love and appreciation for anything that resembles quality music. Props to B. Kyle on the video. Created in 2006, this remembrance piece is created as a tribute to the memory and legacy of James “J.Dilla” Yancey. This is a piece designed for his fans and supporters who knew of his accomplishments before February 2006 and those that have grown to appreciate his genius. Here, we gain a greater insight and understanding about our musical icon.

‘ONE NIGHT IN VEGAS’ WITH TUPAC AND MIKE TYSON

Tonight, on the 14th anniversary of Tupac’s murder, ESPN will premiere Reggie Rock Bythewood’s new documentary One Night In Vegas. Part of the “30 for 30″ documentary series, the film take a look at the friendship between ’Pac and Mike Tyson, as well as the events of that night that saw the boxer’s final championship win and the iconic rapper’s slaying.

Recently, I had the opportunity to chat with Bythewood about the film and the controversial icons:

One night, Mike was going in to the Palladium (night club) in Hollywood. And he sees this little skinny guy fighting with the bouncers, who don’t want to let him in because of how he was dressed. He tells them “Hey, let the little guy in” and it was ’Pac. That’s where their friendship started. The night before the big fight, ‘Pac was in the studio recording a song for Mike’s entrance in to the ring.

Here, Roy discusses the current state of music and gives us a look inside his Japanese tour.  This documentary is available for purchase in Japan only  so if you have the ill translator, you can pick it up here . Judging by the trailer, it looks pretty dope!

SPIKE LEE X KOBE BRYANT=DOPE DOCUMENTARY

This combination is destined for success. In one corner, we  got Spike Lee, who is one of the most talented directors EVER. In the other, Kobe Bryant, who has created his own lane in the basketball world. The documentary, Kobe Doin’ Work: A Game in The Life, takes an introspective look into Bryant’s career and many accomplishments. It will air Saturday, May 16  at 7:30 pm EST on ESPN.
