Aight, here’s the deal… My gf & I, after a year & a half broke up. It was prolly the hardest break up for me in all my years of dating glurbs & I found myself having a pity party listening to songs that painted my mood. I made this lil 7 song playlist and played it out til I felt better. Fast fwd to today… I feel great! However, so are these songs! I always found myself drawn to songs of this nature even while in a relationship so it’s nothing to hear these now, even tho I aint feelin like this no more. You may be going thru something right now, or just went thru something, or maybe have a great relationship and these songs do not pertain to yo, but like I said… they still dope! NEW SCHITT!! DERT – CMYK

A short, but in-depth ep based on the four colors that make up the traditional printing process; cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Each track is a synaesthetic response translating the emotions each color evokes. CMYK marks Dert’s first project composing every track without the use of found samples or loops and delving deep into synth-based production. Every track features a “hook” or “refrain” buried low in the mix surrounded by a “wall of sound” created by layering keyboard parts and employing various methods of distortion. CMYK takes inspiration from the shoegaze genre of rock and artists such as My Bloody Valentine as well as the vocal stylings of J-Dilla on his track “Nothing Like This.”

My favorite track since he sent me the ‘sandbox-automatic’ version, immediatley was/is Magenta & I highly reccomend you press play on that lil button down there below this sentence.

Whattup Blind I faithful! I truly apologize for not droppin this on the 15th (the day NKD’s are scheduled to drop) but the truth of the matter is that (in the words of my momz) ‘I am burning the candle @ both ends’ by doing ’4 much’ these daze! But ya know what I say… I’ll rest when I’m dead. So with that being said, let’s get to it! I had 5 songs that I had previously selected a month ago for this months edition. The rest was compiled all damn day today. A MAGICAL MUSICAL NIGHT [A SUITE FOR MA DUKES]

Hours ago an audience was fortunate to hear the sounds of the man we all know and love, J Dilla through an orchestra composed under the direction of Miguel Atwood Ferguson.As much as I wanted to,  I wasn’t able to fly down to L.A. for this one. However Our good friend Dert was not only in attendance, but sitting front row to witness what I knew would be a night to talk about for years to come. Lucky for us, He was able to record the last memorable moments of the performance. The rest is through his eyes & words.

This is video I took at the Timeless: Suite For Ma Dukes concert. A 40-piece orchestra interpreting Jay-Dee’s wonderful work from the hits to the obscure. Arrangements by Miguel Atwood Ferguson. There were numerous cameos throughout the night but this video features Posdnous of the great De La Soul and Talib Kweli performing Stakes Is High and Illa J doing adlibs over Fall in Love. Karriem Riggins was on the drums for the 2nd half of the show. I was trying to be respectful by not taking video but at this point everyone in the place took out cameras and flashes were going off. Since I was in the front row, I might as well share a little bit with y’all. When the full concert comes out on DVD (since there was a film crew) it’s definitely a must-have for Dilla fans and music lovers alike.-Dert
