FREESTYLE FELLOWSHIP | PROJECT BLOWED 15 YR ANNY

I grew up on RUN DMC & N.W.A. in L.A. & when I was rolling with The Tunnelrats, my man Dax put me onto Freestyle Fellowship. To Whom It May Concern & Intercity Griots would become the only things I would play & study. These 4 men gave birth to a whole new sound & style that to this day many try to imitate but none can compare. It’s crazy to me that Project Blowed just celebrated 15 years of existence as a separate entity from The Good Life, which was home to Freestyle Fellowship as well as a hip hop Apollo if you will. I swear… I can sit here & continue writing a novel about this whole movement. Anyways, much respecognition to my fam Shames Worthy & Dert for the link.

THE KICKDRUMS – THERE MIGHT BE BLOOD EP

To borrow a line from my brother NO, this shit is banging like crip-related elephants out this piece. I’m a hip-hop head to the grave, but it’s something about well-pieced rock with an undertone of hip-hop that just speaks to my soul! You know, it’s the same feeling that made the Neptunes venture into N.E.R.D. territory. Furthermore, The Kickdrums sound is fairly unrelated to any group I can think of off the top of my head, and they make it all sound so simple yet sooooo good. FRANCIS AND THE LIGHTS

The music world is gradually starting to fixate on Francis and the Lights. Though Francis Farewell Starlite’s precise vocals and electric sound is undeniable, there is still an element of mystery looming around him like a force field. Clad in a black ensemble and his signature coif, Francis sat quietly backstage at Manhattan’s Santos Party House. His piercing eyes panned across the room as he reflected on the seemingly accelerated journey of his group. Befitting to the notion that entertainers come alive when they perform, Francis radiated as he glided across the stage with agility. In that moment, audience members were transformed into magnets. Blind I was fortunate enough to catch up with him before the raucous crowd indulged in their energetic set.

NEW SCHITT!! DERT – CMYK

A short, but in-depth ep based on the four colors that make up the traditional printing process; cyan, magenta, yellow and black. Each track is a synaesthetic response translating the emotions each color evokes. CMYK marks Dert’s first project composing every track without the use of found samples or loops and delving deep into synth-based production. Every track features a “hook” or “refrain” buried low in the mix surrounded by a “wall of sound” created by layering keyboard parts and employing various methods of distortion. CMYK takes inspiration from the shoegaze genre of rock and artists such as My Bloody Valentine as well as the vocal stylings of J-Dilla on his track “Nothing Like This.”

My favorite track since he sent me the ’sandbox-automatic’ version, immediatley was/is Magenta & I highly reccomend you press play on that lil button down there below this sentence.
