DEF SOUND- ANYTHING THE ALBUM
I’ve been communicating with DefSound over the past few months as he’s been hard at work on this album. Whether it was through a tweet or an email, the one thing that stood out was his passion for the Anything. So my expectations were already high. Def teamed up with his core collective of artists: Nikko Gray, Brook D’Leau and Jack DaVeY and others. He gels well with them both production wise and as an emcee and a singer. Listening to this album feels kind of like a trippy journey. At times, his voice is distorted and the sound fades in and out throughout the tracks. It’s kind of like stepping into a vortex of musings on everything from making love to making art. It’s definitely his best work to date (no pun intended) and allows you to move beyond that introductory period when you first become familiar with an artist to the phase where you decide if you are truly a fan. Def Sound just dropped some new music! It’s been a few months since his last mixtape came out, and now he’s back in the studio with the lovely songstress Nikko Gray and J*DaVeY’s own Brook D’Leau. The new joint is called “Birds.I.View” and they’re having a contest for producers to remix it. Participants will receive a free physical version of the album, two pins, a sticker, and name in the new album credits and the winning remix will appear on the exclusive physical version of the album. DEF SOUND-TRULY BRIGHT
Our West Coast brother Def Sound just released a new joint called “Truly Bright.” One of the cool things about his music is that the songs really do transform and you can hear the progression from start to finish. This track has a positive message as the title implies, and it’s a feel good gem for spring. Def is currently hard at work on his upcoming project, Anything. just dropped a new joint titled, “A Song Called Anything” featuring Alex Isley. Most of us enter a new year with a reflective state of mind and a list of goals to accomplish. On the same note, the lyrics to the song are uplifting and optimistic and the message is simple: just be whatever you want to be! We look forward to hearing more from Def Sound. Summer is winding down, but it’s not over yet! DefSound sent this track to me with the line, “Won’t you let this become the soundtrack to your days?” What a perfect segue into this lovely melody with West Coast singer Nikko Gray. If you guys listen to my Rendezvous compilations, you’ve heard plenty from her before. She sounds like an angel. And Def Sound kills it on the production as always. I think they make an excellent pair. We will keep you posted for more music from them. For now, get “Lunar.Sun.Light” into your summer rotation. Partake!

Off the upcoming collaborative effort with Nikko Gray titled Love.Shaped.Love.Sounds, the Cosby sweater bandit known as Def Sound releases “NightMare.of.My.Dream(s).” The track represents a poetic flow about the classic story of “Boy.(Never).Meets.Girl.,” over light drums and weary, twinkle sounds. Along with that Def Sound was added to JDaVeY x Blu’s NewWest Tour which is going down tonight in San Fran and Tomorrow in my town San Jose.
