D’ANGELO AND THE TESTIMONY LIVE IN PARIS (AUDIO)

Any D’Angelo fan who remembers when Brown Sugar was released,  considers Voodoo an R&B classic or simply digs his music has had an exciting week. We’ve all pondered whether he’d make a legitimate comeback and finally record some new material for over a decade now. Fortunately, this Europe tour has eliminated doubts and reignited his fan base. He’s back! And not only is there amazing footage of  the shows popping up all over the internet, but now we have a full recording of the show for our listening pleasure.  It’s a pretty hefty download (and has some folks talking here and there) but it’s worth the wait. I’m streaming a few songs here, but the full tracklisting can be found after the page jump. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I am. It’s like memory lane sprinkled with the future. Shout out to Okayplayer for posting this.

The first time we decided to collaborate on a compilation it was for Grimey, which was three volumes of hardcore hip hop. And  during the process of selecting songs, we discovered that our individual musical tastes were very similar and complemented each other well. We have some dope compilation ideas for the future but for now we proudly present… All That Jazz Vol. 1. Some of the songs are strictly jazz, while others just have the smooth vibe like “Autumn’s Evening Breeze.” In the tracklist, the songs in blue were picked by Maiya and teal by NO and we alternated taking turns. It’s cold outside and the perfect time to throw this compilation on and let it ride.

Here we are with Innervisions Vol. 5. For those of you who are new to the compilation series, it was inspired by Stevie Wonder’s 1973 classic record. On these mixes, I include a lot of old-school soul, funk, R&B and blend it with some modern songs for a trippy experience. You should feel like you stepped into a time machine either to the past or the future when you play the songs. I’ve been getting my footing for getting these to sound right for a while, and I think it’s the most cohesive set besides Vol. 3 which is my favorite to date. Mark Ronson‘s stellar new project, “Mark Ronson & The Business Intl.’s Record Collection“, just keeps leaking stellar song work, with the latest being ‘Glass Mountain‘ featuring the Sasquatch/Lochness Monster that is D’Angelo. Now, most D’Angelo-philes may listen and say “Hey, that’s not the D’Angelo I know!”, but damn, Voodoo came out 10 years ago (wow), the music had to progress to a certain extent. And there’s one thing I know: Mark Ronson is a member of that elite musical circle that is currently pushing the boundaries of music. D’Angelo will be fine. If you’re a D’Angelo fan, you’ll immediately peep that Sulaiman is telegraphing his Voodoo album cover here (except $ kept his shirt on, Ha).

In the span of ONLY eight hours, Suli rhymed over D’Angelo samples mixed by producer Chris P and breathed new life into them. Voila, D’ecent was born. You’d be hard-pressed to find Suli shamelessly plugging himself here, so I wanted to post this for your listening pleasure.
