VANGUARD:NOVEM

It’s been a minute, but now I’m back in it. Truthfully, I went away from the compilation game for selfish reasons. If you’ve browsed around Blind I in the past year or so, you’ll know that I do my artistic thing. The deeper I got into my craft, I found myself with less & less time to check out new artists. But your hunger was strong for a staple that we’ve been known for since 2006, and we weren’t about to let that just drop so quickly. So I decided to smack myself in the face a few hundred times, sift through some of the wack new developments in this hip-hop shit, some of the over-saturated others, and give you guys a cool crop of fresh records encompassed in my NEW compilation continuation – Vanguard. So from here on out, only shit I’m fucking with in the flesh will make this comp. If it’s short, you know why. If you got dope shit, keep sending it. You too may very well be a part of the Vanguard moment in music. For my inaugural piece, I’ve got features from legends DJ Premier, Nas, Common, and The Roots…..some new-age heavyweights like Black Milk, Thom Yorke, DOOM, Pac Div, Asher Roth, Freddie Gibbs and Big K.R.I.T….and dope newcomers like Casey Veggies, YP, Rockie Fresh, Chance the Rapper, D2G, Vic Spencer, Schoolboy Q, ASAP Rocky, L.E.P. VIC SPENCER & D2G – HARD BARS

The guys Vic Spencer and D2G started crafting Hard Bars months ago with the intent to channel the most gritty, raw hip-hop essence into a project that was representative of both of their styles – and happily for us, they overachieved. Some may remember Vic Spencer from the Go Louis project with STL/The Force’s Black Spade, or  OUR collaborative effort We’re Just Disappointed, or even his most recent master work, Vic Greenthumbs. D2G is a member of the Make-A-Move crew, and a representative of the Flyy City camp of Chicago/ATL. Whether it’s neck breakers like, well, Neck Brace, or more melodic tunes like Hard Love, the consistent element of every track on the project are outstanding lines of force, shock, and awe. Features from the likes of JDP, YP, Que Billah, C. Rich, Flow Easy, Pavy and more only accentuate the strength of the project as a whole. VIC SPENCER & BLACK SPADE – GO LOUIS

Vic Spencer and Black Spade, having been frequent collaborators for the last few years, combined forces to show Midwest love across state lines with an amalgamation of St. Louis and and Chicago stylings aptly titled ‘Go Louis‘. The project is STELLAR and features the likes of Naledge, Nato Caliph, Tef Poe, Bryan Stewart, The Primeridian, Sulaiman, Brian Fresco, Vic Mensa, D2G, Yung Word Mann and the Co-Pilots, produced entirely by Black Spade and with Vic on every track. WE’RE JUST DISAPPOINTED – VIC SPENCER & SULAIMAN

It is my pleasure to drop this dope collaborative  effort from my brother and fellow BLIND I FOR THE KIDS affiliate Sulaiman in association with BRAINIAC SOCIETY’s very own Vic Spencer entitled ‘ WE’RE JUST DISAPPOINTED’…..The project is a lyrical embodiment of the frustration stemming from two outliers navigating a realm of scene hoes, wack rappers, janky promoters, anonymous blog comments, and all-around bitch-assness. They’ve seen what the status quo has to offer, and frankly, they’re Just Disappointed.

With stellar production from M. Stacks, Black Spade, Statik Selektah, Constrobuz, NAMELESS, Nez & Rio, Maja 7th, Beat Maker Beat, and features from Naledge of Kidz In The Hall, Simeon of The Primeridian, Alex P. Keaton, D2G, Yung Word Mann, and Gzus Piece, Vic & Sulaiman are able to vividly depict the definition of Disappointment in a manner that everyone can relate to. 13 tracks of dope shit, tailor made to make a change by actually BEING the change. Peep “Feel Better” to get a sample of some of the heat that this album is packin … HEAT!
