MAIYA PRESENTS…ELECTRICITY VOL. 2

Hey hey! Since last month’s go round, summer has officially started and I’m feeling great. The weather is warmer, opportunities are blooming and we all have a lot to look forward to. I’m a city girl (NYC to exact) and for the first volume, I included songs with  good energy that reminded me of the pulse the metropolis exudes. This version is a little smoother, but somehow it puts me in the mindset of all the lights and the action. Making these is really abstract process, so it’s better to let you play it than explain it. Y’all know my formula by now. Enjoy. Everything you need is after the jump.

It’s that time of the month again. She’s baaacccccckkk. I was hoping to use the artwork that was on the wall in the movie Belly (our minds work so randomly don’t they) because I thought it would be perfect. You should know the RDV compilations by now. All the goods are after the skip. Let me know what you think. Some new, some old. All sexy. Thanks to Suli and Noah for tag-teaming the graphics.

There are so many reasons to feel good right now. Blind I has an amazing showcase on the way NEXT WEEK at SXSW (become a fan on FB #shamelessplug). The snow is finally melted and it seems like Spring is about to make its debut. These always get a lot of downloads but there’s something about this volume that I really like. Can’t put my finger on it. Make love. Spread love. Enjoy!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and it seems to be my turn  to do a compilation each year around this time. Normally I do a very warm fuzzy mix with love songs and hearts galore. But this year, I told Noah to go for an edgier cover and he killed it! I wanted to include songs that were open to interpretation (i.e. Badu- “Window Seat”) because the holiday means something different to everyone depending on their circumstance. So sit back, let it play, and reflect.

MAIYA PRESENTS…SEASONS

Seasons-Front (2)

Sometimes we’ve done seasonal compilations that have been more literal, but to me these songs just take me to that place. The leaves are falling and the temperature is lowering. Old memories are phasing out to create room for new experiences.

COMPILATION – JAY.F*CKING.ELEC: A CRASH COURSE…

JAY ELECTRONICA COMP COVEROkay, so this is Blind I, right? And Blind I is for the kids, right? And you’re supposed to educate the youth….right?

Right. So it only made sense for me to  put this together so anybody out there who has yet to familiarize themselves with the illness that is Jay Electronica can adequately do so. Because the way its looking, there are far too many out there that fall into that category.

For anyone who is already privy I’m almost certain that you have every last one of the tracks on here. This is for the ones who don’t. No track list either, just go in and thank me later.

MAIYA PRESENTS…ELECTRICITY VOL.1

I’m coming clean with you guys. I used to do a new compilation theme every month, but I’ve gotten sucked into the Rendezvous and Innervisions volume vacuums that I’ve yet to post anything new or innovative mix wise.  After listening to all the tracks the staff contributed to Braille, and the recent GRIMEY mix we did, the feedback on the musical diversity was great. So I thought, alright Mai, time for a new joint. The word electric has been dancing around in my head lately so Electric Relaxation came to mind (Noah promptly told me the name was unoriginal and lame).  After agreeing with him, we arrived at ElectriCITY and he delivered the art.

MAIYA AND NO PRESENT…GRIMEY VOL. 1

GRIMEY-COVEROrganized Konfusion – Bring It On

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

What’s good Blind I Faithful? It’s your girl Maiya and your boy NO coming to you with our first joint compilation…GRIMEY! We’ve talked about doing one for ages and finally made it happen. You’d think between our typical comps, it might be pretty eclectic or soulful. THINK AGAIN! Most men assume the ladies have to act/look rough to appreciate some old La the Darkman or N.W.A. (a stereotype I proudly defy).   So, NO and I got our hands dirty in the crates to deliver a gritty, grimy, hardcore mix unlike anything you’ll see on the other blogs.

We literally birthed the idea yesterday morning and completed it in an hour last night. Beginning with my Raekwon “Penitentiary” (The new Rae is ill BTW) we tag teamed track for track throughout the entire thing. Between Gravediggaz, Organized Konfusion and O.C., we got something in store for rap fans that frequent Blind I.

Special thanks to $uli for delivering the artwork via NO’s idea.

MAIYA’S RENDEZVOUS VOL.3

MAIYA-RENDEZVOUS-3 (2)

Every compilation I make contains either an instrumental or a capella. Have you noticed? I feel like there are a million ways to interpret a song. I’ve heard the same song while experiencing a distinct emotion and it was a completely different tune. When you feel heartbroken or moody, when you’ve had wine, if you’re happy and in love… the list goes on. You know these mixes by now-it’s volume 3. Many throwbacks here. Some new. Enjoy.
