HAZ SOLO-LINER NOTES (HIGH CALORIE DONUT MIX)

Blind I comrade and producer Haz Solo salutes J Dilla with a new track, “Liner Notes (High Calorie Donut Mix).  I smiled listening to this because I recently included the original song, “Telegram” by Eleanore Mills on Rendezvous: The Soul Edition. The beauty of hip hop production is the many ways samples can be flipped and interpreted from different vantage points. Enjoy. And lookout for more from Haz.

THE PRIMERIDIAN-WHAT IF JAY DEE PRODUCED PCP

Dilla tributes, mash-ups and remixes pop up annually in February.  There are so many to keep up with, but you know Blind I will post at least a few. The Primeridian is paying homage via What If Jay Dee Produced PCP.

“This collection of songs over rare and unreleased gems from the late James Yancey aka Jay Dee aka J Dilla is in honor of the producer/artist/musician extraordinaire. D’ANGELO AND THE TESTIMONY LIVE IN PARIS (AUDIO)

Any D’Angelo fan who remembers when Brown Sugar was released,  considers Voodoo an R&B classic or simply digs his music has had an exciting week. We’ve all pondered whether he’d make a legitimate comeback and finally record some new material for over a decade now. Fortunately, this Europe tour has eliminated doubts and reignited his fan base. He’s back! And not only is there amazing footage of  the shows popping up all over the internet, but now we have a full recording of the show for our listening pleasure.  It’s a pretty hefty download (and has some folks talking here and there) but it’s worth the wait. I’m streaming a few songs here, but the full tracklisting can be found after the page jump. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I am. It’s like memory lane sprinkled with the future. Shout out to Okayplayer for posting this.

KNXWLEDGE-OVRSTND.LP

When Knx sends me some new music,  I usually just listen to it, then whip up a quick post about it (busy, busy, busy). From the album cover, to the samples and the song titles, I can usually just use my insight to find out the tone of a project. My guess this time? A somewhat melancholy, reflective set with an undertone of change or moving forward on something. Today, I decided to ask him what specifically inspired the Ovrstnd LP.  His answer? It was inspired by old thoughts. My old house. Remembered melodies. I wasn’t too far off the mark eh? Check out two of my favorite jams from the project, then listen and discover your favorites. It’s definitely lovely to have a full length project to take our time with.

BLACK SPADE-SPAND (PROD. BY KNXWLEDGE)

Pardon us for the delay in posting this new track “Spand” by our St. Louis brother Black Spade.  This beat originally appeared in Knxwledge’s Kompsure.EP and now Spade has laced it with his vocals.  Lately,  I’ve noticed tons of artists rhyming over Knx’s beats, and you  typically don’t see him endorsing the end result. But in this case, both artists are really standing behind “Spand” and once you listen you’ll understand why. There’s a musical chemistry between the two that might fuel more collabs in the future. Black Spade is in the process of working on his next solo album as well as working with Coultrain and others. As always, Knxwledge has been cranking EPs out on the regular. You know you’ll find all of them posted here on the site. Enjoy.

SAUX-REAR WINDOW EP (F/JOYA MOOI)

Blind I favorite Joya Mooi just sent over a new track called “Later In Time” by a producer named Saux who is also based in Amsterdam. This is a single from Saux’s new EP titled Rear Window, which was just released today!  Joya is featured on two songs in the EP. She’s now back to creating music after a brief hiatus, so hopefully this means we’ll have a follow up to her Hard Melk LP. We will definitely be looking forward to hearing more from Saux as well.

SONNYMOON- 2012 EP STREAMS + NEAR ME VIDEO

When our dear friends  Sonnymoon sent us their latest EP: 2012 via email, it didn’t take but a five minutes for the whole staff to stop what we were doing and listen. The five-song project sent all of us into a euphoric tailspin, as we discussed their updated sound. It’s still the same Sonnymoon we fell in love with circa Golden Age, but it seems as if they’ve turned up the voltage a bit on this one. We’re posting the link to the write up and links shortly, but for now, enjoy the streams and visuals for my favorite new track, “Near Me.” Feels like an out of-body-experience. Enjoy.

MAIYA PRESENTS…RENDEZVOUS-THE SOUL EDITION

The new year always brings massive periods of reflection for me. Not only do we all start a new chapter, but I have a January birthday, so I’m looking ahead and acknowledging my past simultaneously. I assess where I want to be,  areas of life to improve and lessons to keep in my back pocket.  I’ve always been an extremely deep thinker, and music significantly marks and highlights different seasons on my life.

Happy 2012 Blind I faithful! The talented Def Sound just dropped a new joint titled, “A Song Called Anything” featuring Alex Isley.  Most of us enter a new year with a reflective state of mind and a list of goals to accomplish. On the same note, the lyrics to the song are uplifting and optimistic and the message is simple: just be whatever you want to be!
