I was hoping the cover would be complete in time for me to post this on Dilla’s birthday. But, I’m glad that we waited a little bit because it allowed me listen to the songs a few more times, and make some last-minute tweaks.  I’ve decided to theme my Rendezvous mixes this year in order to challenge myself and take them to the next level. It’s February, so doing a tribute to one of my favorite producers and a true visionary was the first thing that came to mind.  Most people who visit Blind I are avid collectors of Dilla’s material, so there are probably no songs that we’ve left out over the years (see: No’s Dilla Vol. 1 and 2). So instead, I pulled together some of my favorites; group and solo material, original samples and music from unrelated artists that give me similarly warm vibes. I hope you enjoy. Please grant the Blind I team a late pass for posting this new video for “Little One.” Autism is a cause the singer has helped spread awareness about, since his own son was diagnosed with the condition. The words to the song  will nearly bring tears to your eyes. I really respect him for using his music as a platform for dialogue.

Cubic Zirconia just released the video for “Night or Day” featuring Bilal. This single is a bit mellow compared to their previous work but it’s equally as dope and piques fans’ interest for the direction their music is heading. The imagery really captures New York and Tiombe looks great. We’re looking forward to their new album, Follow Your Heart, out this summer.

Last Monday, April 11th at 10:43AM, my daughter Ajané arrived into the world. It was the most beautifulest thing in the world without a doubt. Being “on call” for the whole month of March & April kinda put a roadblock in my head as to what ‘theme’ I wanted to execute for Aprils NKD & as I pondered the thoughts I lowkey was already playing the soundtrack & not even knowing it. Playing songs that I felt related to what I was going through or have gone through or what I want to achieve as a man & as a father to my children. About a week before the 15th (sorry for the delay… been busy changing diapers n schitt. pun.) I finally decided to dedicate this months NKD to the babies. The children. The kids! But no… not on some Yo Gabba Gabba or Kids Sing Along schitt… naw… on some grown folks – grown biz – type of musical growth if you will. Whether you are a mother or a father, raising your sons or daughters, this edition goes harder to marauder & slaughter any biologicals that don’t bother. I breaks water! hahaha Naw pho trill tho… I’m on Cloud 9000 & 99! Blind I For The Kids… literally.
