ESTELLE DARLINGS & DJ TRAUMA: #IALMOSTMADEAMIXTAPE

It must be something about the summer. All of these smooth mixtapes keep popping up everywhere. Estelle, the Brit songstress and DJ Trauma collaborated for this set of tracks she’s been wanting the public to hear. Slight late pass on this one because it came out last week, but we were too busy cooking out, pardon!  In her intro she says she wants to be known for more than the woman behind “American Boy.” So here’s her stab at it while we wait on her next album All Eyes on Me. So many people have taken a crack at Weldon Irvine’s “Morning Sunrise” (Hov, Lupe, etc.) and since it’s one of my favorite songs, I appreciate hearing it in various forms. On “Dear London” (she kind of) raps on the beat, paying homage to her hometown. Pretty cool stuff here. Lots of familiar samples. Check it out.
