I was hoping the cover would be complete in time for me to post this on Dilla’s birthday. But, I’m glad that we waited a little bit because it allowed me listen to the songs a few more times, and make some last-minute tweaks. I’ve decided to theme my Rendezvous mixes this year in order to challenge myself and take them to the next level. It’s February, so doing a tribute to one of my favorite producers and a true visionary was the first thing that came to mind. Most people who visit Blind I are avid collectors of Dilla’s material, so there are probably no songs that we’ve left out over the years (see: No’s Dilla Vol. 1 and 2). So instead, I pulled together some of my favorites; group and solo material, original samples and music from unrelated artists that give me similarly warm vibes. I hope you enjoy. And while we’re all sharing material it’s important to remember that Dilla has a foundation. I made a donation a few weeks back, and I encourage you all to do the same: http://jdillafoundation.org/.
