DIAMOND DISTRICT LIVE THIS THURSDAY! [FOR FREEEEEEE!!]

The homies Kenny Fresh of Fresh Selects & Chase Freeman of NMDZ are proud to present the Portland debut of Washington, DC supergroup Diamond District. Compromised of rapper/producer, Oddisee, and his MC counterparts, yU and X.O. – Diamond District have been making a tidal wave of noise throughout the music world after the release of their debut album, In The Ruff, last fall.

Hailed by such hip-hop notables as DJ Premier, Posdnous (De La Soul), Phonte (Little Brother/The Foreign Exchange) - In The Ruff was widely accepted as one of the essential hip-hop albums of 2009. All three members have surely been no slouch in their solo careers either. Oddisee recently released the instrumental album, Travelin Man, and has produced tracks for everyone from DJ Jazzy Jeff to Freeway to Talib Kweli. yU officially released a retail version of his underground classic, Before Taxes, this month, which was selected as a XXL Editor’s Choice and licensed for Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Bubblers Fourcompilation when FRESHselects.net first released it last year. Lastly X.O. has been continuing his reign over the DMV-area mixtape scene through a slew of releases with the reputable Studio43 label, most recently One. One. Ten.

Still fresh off of stealing the show at Talib Kweli & Blacksmith/Peter Rosenberg’s Noisemakers showcase at this year’s SXSW festival, Diamond District will be coming to Portland to do the same at a FREE (!!!!) First Thursday performance at The Fix on May 6th @ Someday Lounge (125 NW 5th Ave). The Fix is one of the pillars of hip-hop nightlife in the city and is going stronger than ever in its 4th year on the scene. This marks a milestone for the night, as thanks to a partnership with music hustle visionary Chase Freeman, The Fix is able to present such a quality act as Diamond District with NO cover charge. The group will be supported by DJ sets from resident Fix-tures Rev Shines (Lifesavas, Quannum/Live & Direct), DJ Kez (360 Vinyl) & Dundiggy (Rock Box) – plus your host, Ronin Roc (Ante Up).
