NEW YORK STATE OF MIND

When I was a kid in Cali, my older brother and I listened to a lot of music out of New York. Back then, the East Coast was in the lead and Rap City was in heavy rotation. Even in elementary school, I was buying albums and dissecting them on my pH scale for quality. The hip-hop seed was planted early.

Tracklist and links after the break.

Even now, I often surprise people with my hundreds of CDs and music collection, and I think women can get stereotyped for their taste. When I first told the Blind I boys that I wanted to do my own compilation in January, $ said, “Don’t be putting no Chris Brown on your comp, Mai.” Haha!

We’ve just relaunched, so some of my compilation ideas got stale to me during our hiatus. I was listening to EPMD’s Back in Business and now that we’re back, a light bulb clicked. I pulled out my enormous leather CD holder, played some songs that I’ve been jonesing to hear lately, and zipped them up for you. Some classics and some wild cards, in no particular order. Live and direct from Harlem, USA I bring you my latest compilation, New York State of Mind.

Don’t forget, feedback is my favorite!
