Maroon 5 will release its sophomore album, “It Won’t Be
Soon Before Long,” May 22 via the new A&M/Octone Records
partnership. The first single is “Makes Me Wonder.”
The 12-track set is the follow-up to 2002’s “Songs About
Jane,” which has sold 4.3 million units in the United
States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It features
production by Mike Elizondo, Mark “Spike” Stent, Eric
Valentine and Mark Endert.
“It’s like ‘Songs About Jane,’ but more danceable,”
guitarist James Valentine recently said of the new album,
adding that “the beats are definitely harder” but that
there are “also some mellow vibes.”
Maroon 5 will unveil new material at two upcoming shows:
March 27 in Los Angeles at part of Nissan Live Sets,
followed by a March 30 performance at the third annual
Musicians on Call benefit at New York auction house
Sotheby’s.

This album is dope. Here’s her background info:
“Amy Jade Winehouse (born September 14, 1983) is an English jazz/soul singer and songwriter. Her debut album, Frank (released in 2003) was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and she won an Ivor Novello award in 2004 for her debut single “Stronger Than Me”. In 2006, she released her second album, Back to Black. On 14th February 2007, she won a Brit award for Best British Female Solo Artist. In 2007 Back to Black reached #7 on the Billboard 200 Album chart in the US, selling over 51000 copies in its first week and one of the highest new entries for a female singer ever.
Born into a family with a history of jazz musicians, she grew up in the suburb of Southgate, North London, and attended Ashmole School. At around age 10, Winehouse founded a short-lived amateur rap group called Sweet ‘n’ Sour, as Sour. She described the group as “the little white Jewish Salt ‘n’ Pepa”. She attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School aged 12 but was expelled at 13 for “not applying herself” and piercing her own nose. She later attended the BRIT School in Selhurst, Croydon.
She grew up listening to a diverse range of music (from Salt ‘n’ Pepa to Sarah Vaughan) and received her first guitar aged 13.
After her friend, soul singer Tyler James, gave her demo tape to an A&R person, she was discovered and began singing professionally at age 16.”

• 1.] Intro
• Intro beat is fire. Upon starting the album I was wondering if it would be worth listening to, and the intro does the job of tell me to continue to listen. Point taken. (8 out of 10)
• 2.] You (Feat. Lil’ Wayne)
• This is the club joint/radio banger. Basically the reason I decided to even listen to this album. It does what a single should do; attract target listeners and get the ears of those who would be target listeners. Adding Lil’ Wayne was genius; it drew in a certain demographic, which surprisingly consists of a lot of female listeners. Plus the old school sample the song originates from is a classic to actual music enthusiasts. (9 out of 10)
• 3.] Certified
• First and foremost, the guitar licks and snares are crazy. I think this is what current R&B should sound like. Not everyone can be like John Legend, but then again I’d go insane if that’s the only style of R&B there was. Sometimes you just need some R. Kelly craziness, correct? This is exactly what translates in this song. Some R. Kelly flair, fun for the kids to dance to at their parties. I could live without the rhyme by Lloyd in the middle though. Treated cookies. (8 out of 10)
• 4.] I Don’t Mind
• Geez Louise. Never thought I’d hear Lloyd or anyone like him on a beat like this. Reminds me of some current Usher though, but the beat is NASTY in the car stereo. Definitely a club banger. The bridge is pleasantly surprising as well, and i give props to whoever wrote this one (anyone know if Lloyd writes his own songs?) Great track. (9 out of 10)
• 5.] Get It Shawty
• Mark my words, all R&B will sound similar to this in the next 5-10 years. Beat is kinda similar to Ciara’s Turn It Up joint. Highly up-tempo R&B is what’s up in the next couple of years. Some of the lyrics are quirky, for instance, Who’s the daughter of Frankie Beverly? Maybe Lloyd has the answer. I love this chorus and the way it fades in and out. Gets stuck in my mind time after time, and makes you wanna dance in the process. What could be better for an artist? (10 out of 10)
• 6.] Incredible
• This one must be the ode to Michael Jackson, because it sounds a bit like the Floetry-written Mike song “Butterflies” but in 2007. Never realized how much he sounds like Mike though. Even on the adlibs. Bongos in the beat make this joint stand out a bit, and the lyrics are pretty dope: “Could it be your smile that makes me feel Invincible, incredible…”, I Likes. (8 out of 10)
• 7.] Valentine
• Now I heard this song some time ago and it didn’t really spark much interest with me musically. But in juxtaposition (thats a fancy word for “compared to”) the Incredible track, I see the Michael comparison even more. This has a California feel to it, I think some girls will like this joint on some getting dressed in the morning type ish. Cool but not very standout to me. (7 out of 10)
• 8.] Hazel
• I’ve never heard a song where a singer tried to tackle the metaphorical game. In this joint he’s talking about weed (which isn’t obvious until the end of the song, which means he did a good job.) Unless you smoke, have smoked, or are around those who smoke, you won’t catch onto the hints (Hazel, “Let me take a look at those purple highlights in your hair”, “I hit the corner store for you and scrape the guts out a Dutch”, etc.) A dope track to ride to at night for those who like to “partake” though. (8 out of 10)
• 9.] Player’s Prayer
• Yes! I love the way this joint starts off, it sounds like H-Town! Arguably the freshest time of R&B in recent memory (come on! Jodeci? Mint Condition? Shai? Soul 4 Real? H-Town?) He switches it into 2007 mode though with some current, up-to-date drum patterns. The lyrics appeal to the female listeners, on some “I’m sorry take me back” type stuff, so the dudes may not like it as much. Decent track however. (7 out of 10)
• 10.] Killing Me
• Too much producer talking in the beginning! The beat is hot the way it drops ever two bars or so and the drums switch up. I love it, little things like that do it for an eclectic listener and musical connoisseur like myself. Another song that sounds like a Confessions Bonus Track however. Not superbly original, but good nonetheless. (8 out of 10)
• 11.] Take You Home
• Blackstreet maybe? Teddy Riley maybe? This song just reminds me of that joint they did with Foxy Brown, which is good because I loved that song. Although this is a bit less fresh, I think the “Take You Home Tonight” part does enough to parallel itself with the Blackstreet joint that it kinda catches your ear. A so-so track. (6 out of 10)
• 12.] What You Wanna Do
• I think they’ve sampled the choral ending part of Marvin Gaye’s “Mercy Me”, an Idea i’ve had for years and I think Nas did for “Blunt Ashes”. I love the now-traditional “Yeah you got a man but he ain’t me” R&B track. This fits right into the mold. “No disrespect, but that n*gga ain’t me” says Lloyd. Man, that’s what I tell em too. This is a nice slow dance, lust-filled track, perfect for sweet sixteen birthdays and marriage receptions. Nah I’m playing, but it is a good track. (8 out of 10)
• 13.] Streetlove
• The title track, and deservedly so. This one beats very sick-like. Slow but deadly with the kicks! I’m glad someone explained the difference between being in the streets and being in the sheets with every chick. You CAN do one and not the other! Smack! But back to the track, this is one I’d definitely throw on in the moment, nahmean!? And with that Roger & Zapp effect on the adlibs, you can’t go wrong. Good track. (9 out of 10)
• 14.] One For Me
• Art of Noise - Moments In Love sample. Only it’s much more classier than the one from Play & Skills, Krayzie Bone, Adina Howard, etc., which is MUCH more freakier. But it’s still a dope joint for the moment. Unfortunately when you sample such a well-known song, you really need to put your foot in it to make it pop. It doesn’t quite compare to the original, but it’s still worth a listen. (8 out of 10)
• 15.] I Want You Remix (Feat. Andre 3000 & Nas)
• Pop Quiz: If you saw ANY song with Nas and Andre 3000 featured on it, wouldn’t you ASSUME that it’s fire? Exactly. If you haven’t heard the remix, please do. When I first heard this remix I was hooked and automatically got more people hooked on it. This remixed beat is better than the original to me, because they include more of the original song from PM Dawn. Freshness, and a dope way to end the album. I’m glad they included it. (10 out of 10)

All in all, Lloyd’s Street Love is a pleasant surprise from the R&B sophomore, and the songs deliver a different dimension to the dude who once sang about the Southside with a girl who couldn’t sing whatsoever. Treated Ashanti, Treated. The album gets a 8.5 out of 10 from me.
